A/N: I have a soft spot for Jack/Donna. Possibly because stupid s4 made it a joke that even Jack isn't interested in Donna. That pisses me off! Anyway, here's a little ficlet that will probably be the only Jack/Donna thing I ever

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE this description: " the light in her head burned clear"
it's like the slow burn is cleansing, or like the dawn burns away fog, only slowly at first, until there is perfect clarity. I LOVE this image of how Donna's mind could solve the metacrisis.

And Jack…oh he broke my heart here. I love Jack.

And heck YES to correcting that grievously ridiculous notion that Jack wasn't attracted to Donna in season 4, what was THAT nonsense?!

I KNOW! Doesn't that make you so mad?! "Oh, here's Jack. He'll flirt with a houseplant, but he won't hug Donna Noble! har har har!" Urgh, it makes me go into a rage.
Anyway, I'm glad you liked this little bit! I just felt like writing something a bit sad and it seemed to fit the bill!

I agree, that was bizarre. Some try to say that it was because he got vibes from the Doctor that she was taken and not to mess with her. I'd love to buy that one, except that the Doctor was busy hugging Rose at the time, and previously (with Nine), Jack kissed Rose even though the Doctor told him not to. Still, maybe the Doctor was watching,.. and Jack felt uncomfortable this time around. One can dream...

Anyway, back to the story here. Well done... I'd love to see the Doctor return for her. Can't he sense another Time Lord mind? What's he waiting for? Hopefully not regeneration. He'd be there like a shot if he knew! Finally, a companion that truly could give him his forever...

(I like to think he knew the Doctor would tear him apart of he got near Donna! As you say, one can dream!)

I've always been confused about whether the Doctor can sense other Time Lords. On the one hand, aren't they all supposed to be telepathically linked? On the other, he had no flippin' clue about River or the Master, and he was STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO THEM. Does River have some special "you can't find me" power? And, I mean, the Master maybe he didn't know b/c he was "human" at the time they first met, but what about after he came back the second time? The OOD had to tell him? I dunno!

*sniffle* Beautifully done, as always! I never understood why Jack didn't want to flirt with Donna, other than maybe he sensed she was off limits. But these two characters are both fixed points looking for someone who can truly understand what's happened to them, and I think the way the scenario plays out makes a lot of sense here...bittersweet, and these two will have their time together before the Doctor returns. *another sniffle*

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! Jack strikes me as a bit of a sad, tragic character. I think Donna would be good for him, for as long as he could have her.
In my headcanon, it was abs. because she was "off limits", but I fear that the actual DW writers just thought it was another "silly Donna" moment. Like her "wiles." bah.

Ah, so very powerful and an excellent insight into the way Jack thinks and feels, along with his very understanding insight into Donna.

I don't suppose there's any chance of seeing the Doctor's return and his reaction to them being together...

Thanks as always! I probably won't be writing a follow up - this was all that was rattling around in my brain. But who knows? Everytime I try to update some of the the other WIPs, little one-offs keep popping up so anything is possible!

Aww, this is so lovely! I think Jack and Donna work really well together, and I like that you've also made this a fix-it for Donna's brain issues. Poor Jack; I hope Donna convinces the Doctor to take him along when it is time.

I am convinced that the only reason Jack wasn't flirting more with Donna in S4 was that he was distracted by saving the world, not to mention being involved with Ianto back at Torchwood and trying to impress his past crushes the Doctor and Rose.
