Berkeley

Tomorrow we leave for U of O, so I should probably relate my journey to Berkeley here first. Let me just say, the Bay Area is one of THE best places to be. From legless men pushing them selfs along on skateboards, to drunken mardi gras partiers a day early, to random guys who ask for your bag, it was one of the most wonderful experiences. I can't remember terribly many details-the price I pay for waiting so long. Our flight flew into Oakland at 11:30p. We lodged at the Quality Inn, laptops picked up 5 or 6 different wireless networks, worked on cases, went swimming in the pool. The water was FREEZING, and Houston, Todd, Mike just couldn't help trying to throw us in. =P They only half succeeded in my case, but poor carly had no chance. The hot tub provided a nice temperature difference. One of the nights we ordered approximately $100 of Chinese food and ate family style on the floor. We stored the leftovers in the fridge...and it smelled for the remainder of the trip. >.< The boys' room smelled worse than usual. We walked everyday to the BART (Bay Area rapid Transit) Station, a mile walk up the road. Oh! And at the stop light they had just laid wet cement, so Nicolay (!) carved 'debate' into it. Someone else carved "SHS" above it and we continued on. A trip to Walmart helped me bring home a new briefcase/purse thing, perfect for storing my cases. On the way back, we found someone else had carved "Jesus loves" into the cement, making the entire thing look as if it said "Jesus loves SHS Debate." XD

My cases weren't as tidy as I would have liked them, but they were decent. We spent a few hours working on them before heading to the pool. I didn't touch them too much since no one seemed to be offering the exact criticsm that I needed. Broke into quarters w/o having to debate the 9th round. Beat a kid from Palo Alto in quarters. Lost in Semis to a girl I had hit earlier in the day...on the same side of the case. It was a 2-1 vote against me. I handled myself better than I usually do when things like this happen. yay me. *eyeroll* need to get over this. I often wonder why I can't be more emotionally stable-seeming like Catherine, Brandy, and Abby. =\ Anyways, because I broke I was unable to go to San Fran with the rest of the crew. Catherine, Brandon, Todd, Houston, Mike and I stayed at University of California (Jr LD was at the high school the previous day) for the day, puttering around until the rest of the team joined us for awards. We meant a friend of Brandon's who was paralyzed and needed a powerchair. Very interesting guy. We all talked politics while we sat on the steps to a building and he ate pizza.

Have to be at school at 4am tomorrow, leaving for U of Oregon for another tournament. No time for homework. Nat Quals coming up. AP Stats test to take. gah >.
