the election

To be honest, the only thing I think this election really proved was how much people hated (hate) George Bush. What I found interesting was that many states that gave their electoral votes to the democratic party, also voted in republican senators...and truthfully the race was actually much closer than I thought it'd be. If McCain would have separated himself from the current president much sooner in the election I think he would have won, to be honest. He was afterall, ahead in the polls at various points before the debates began, and he didn't separate himself verbally from Bush until the last debate. I hope people realize this election was about much more than just a war overseas.

All in all, I hope one thing...that voters start to think for themselves. I am a firm believer in the fact that we don't just have a two party system and that the third party option is always there and should be excercised when we feel it need be. A true democracy holds that we have more than just a two party system. And people should vote according to what they feel is best for our country, not according to what the "popular" vote is. I was listening to a clip from a Howard Stern show in which they went out to see if african americans were just voting for Obama because he too is African American. During the show they went out and asked various African Americans who they were voting for, and upon hearing they were voting for Obama, the interviewer proceeded to ask the voter questions stating McCain's beliefs as Obama's...in these interviews, the people interviewed all supported the fake Obama claims...proving that many of them weren't even aware of what Obama stands for. All in all, my problem is not with Obama, but with the ignorant voter.

Which only begs me to ask, which is worse an ignorant voter or one who doesn't vote?

Also, although its a long shot, I hope people start voting on a regular basis, and not just for major elections, but for the local elections, because that is really the stuff that affects us immediately. It was ridiculous to me how many people found themselves voting this election, but however many months ago, none of those people cared to vote in the things that directly affected their own community.

The problem ladies and gentleman, does not get fixed from the top downward, it needs to be fixed from the bottom and work its way up. I wonder when people will realize how imperative it is that we have a strong educational system rather than cutting funds from it. It is, sincerely, the one thing our future depends on, and yet its the last thing anyone cares about. We have a huge white elephant sitting in many homes across the country that we continue to ignore...the white elephant being that our family/moral structures are falling apart, thus causing an incredible problem among the youth of america (soon to be our future). Problems that include lashing out, disrespect, an increase in crime, more suicidal tendencies, and an attitude of apathy toward education and culture. This will eventually tear our country apart. Many of this country's problems have nothing to do with our "foreign policies" and "foreign relationships" but rather with the things occuring on our soil in our day to day lives.

These are merely my takes on the election tonight. Yes, history was made, I only hope that God remains in control because I honestly don't know what the future holds, but hey at least I wont be so hated when I go to Paris over New Years...ah hell....I'm sure my american butt still will be.
