these college years really are dream for me.  i find a subject that i’m curious about, locate a professor whose work it brushes up against, and e-mail said professor about how to format research around said point of curiosity.

sorry, that sounds as pretentious as all else.  but let it be that this portion of my life is spent nurturing the element of curiosity.  and in terms of academia, the only assured guarantee for a full fledged effort on my part is a me-me-me attitude (from second grade on, blessed be those who up let me pick-out of the big vast blue of everything and all creation-my own paper topics for SSPDs or whatever wretched name they gave to loooong papers).

i'm determined to contrive a scheme to get myself to africa next summer, whilst my mother thinks i'm safe and tidy in london.  i know folks who have just come home from chad, tanzania, south africa, nigeria, uganda, egypt, ethiopia, cameroon, and sudan.  who's envious? me.  suggestions for mother-defying schemes?  unfortunately i'm 75% kidding. le sigh.
