PEACE OUT OHLONE

Dec 13, 2007 23:49

two and half long years of hard work (most of the time lol) at ohlone and now the next phase of my life is underway. barring meltdown of epic proportion (like the mets blowing a 12 game lead in the last month of the season to miss the playoffs) or an accidental miss grade by a teacher, my grades should get me well above the 2.0 gpa needed to be sustained to transfer. university life will be a change for sure. first time living alone for an extended period of time, first time being completed independent of any adult, and first time bartender (lol). so here's to the start of something new, peace out ohlone and hello southern california life at uci.

since that's all i really wanted to say about the end of ohlone and the start to uci, i might as well add on some baseball talk to this lj. a few things on my christmas wish list that would be great for the giants and my thoughts about bonds possibly signing with the a's.

the big news for the giants this week was the signing of free agent aaron rowand. with a career stat line of .286/.343/.462, he easily becomes the most productive offensive player on the team. he won his first gold glove last year, helped the white sox to a world series championship in 2005, and had a career best stat line of .309/.374/.515. on paper it sounds like a very good signing, but when you look into it, it's no surprise that many fans are indifferent or apprehensive about this deal. many fans are of the thinking that giving big contracts to players who came off of career best years during contract years may be the wrong train of thought. it's been how the giants have operated the past few years. the deal that still has giants fans pissed off is the 2 year $14.5 deal. ya it wasn't a huge contract, but no one would have expected him to have the worst year of his career this past season. whatever the case, the rowand deal is signed, sealed, and delivered.

i will say this about the rowand signing, he is only 30 and may be on the up swing of his career. the contract actually isn't that. andruw jones is getting $36.5 mil for two years, which breaks down to $18.25 a year. the rowand deal cost us $60 mil over 5 years which is only $12 mil a year and he had a very good year.

now that we have some power in the line up, now comes the complimentary bats and the rebuilding. 2 wholes that need to be filled are the corner infield spots at first and third. i don't want to go too in depth, but just a few ways to fill the spot would be through trades of nice 1b/3b players. i'm saying filler players because i'm holding out that angel vilenola will pan out to the next super star 3b. one guy that stands out is hank blalock. had a down year last year, injured for most of it but he's 30 and may be a cheap trade. he can play 3b, but i would like to see him at 1b. for a filler at 3b, who can actually hit, i would try to trade for joe crede. chicago has two 3b right now and they may need some bullpen help. crede might be able to had for bullpen arms.

as far as the bullpen, tyler walker and brian wilson are solid at the end of the game. misch could probably step in for long relief if henessay is traded. but they still need one more arm to stabilize the pen. akinori otsuka just became a free agent. the giants need to make that happen. solid veteren arm, but he was injured at the end of the season last year and the rangers have to know something not to sign him. in 2006 he posted 32 saves, but went back to set up when the rangers signed gagne. i hope he can play effectively next year and for the giants.

well this is actually a very scattered baseball blog. i'm kind of not focused enough to talk about the a's. the jist of my thoughts about bonds to the a's is that it would be a perfect fit. opg is ridiculous and with jack cust behind him they'll be a lot of chances to score.

ya the rap music is getting to me, in a good way, just not good for talking about sports lol. the mitchel ropert came out today, i dl'd the pdf, it's 409 pages and i'm going to read it this break. i am a nerd i know... but it's fun =)

happy holidays everyone.
