friends and sororities
I should be getting ready to go home but I feel like giving a little update! UIC is really cool...the people here are nice, the teachers are good, I like my building and my room and clustermates, its all good. I hang out with my cluster mates (Maria, Kemi sometimes, Laura and Cindy the most), and these 2 girls down the hall-Angie and Veronica I met the first few days I was here. OH and Thursday it was cool cuz I ran into this girl Kristina from my chem class from COD and turns out Angela from our class is at UIC Now too. But yeah Kristina and I have 3 classes together, same times and everything! Angela's really nice to be with so that's cool, we went walking around Greektown Thursday afternoon looking for bars that were hiring. We found one called Dylan's that I think I would like to work at but we have to go back when there's a manager there to give us an application and see if they're hiring.
All this week I've been going to sorority recruitment meetings and having a good time. Tuesday and Wednesday night we would spend 45 minutes/1 hour respectively with each sorority...Then Thursday night was Interview night which we dressed up for and they asked us questions and told us more about themselves and the things they do. My first choice was the Phi Sigma Sigma's cuz I seemed to fit in with them the most. They seemed to like me and asked me lots of questions and were impressed by the volunteer work and clubs I've done so I Thought I would get preffed back. Friday night was preference night. That means Thursday night the sororites decided which girls they wanted to come to their room Friday night to get to know them better. Well I got a call Thursday night from my gamma phi (my group's leader) and I didn't get preffed back into any of them which got me upset cuz they had acted like they liked me a lot and everything and told me not to worry about getting in and such.
Last night everything got better! I went to hang out with the Lambda Zeta Chi's. They are another sorority but they are a local one. The other 3 were national panhellenic sororities which means they have them around the country. But anyways I had an awesome time! We went to Rachel's apartment (the president) and predrank and talked and joked around and listened to music for a bit. Then we walked over to a party at one of the frat's and had an awesome time in the basement. We danced to music and played flippy cup and talked a bunch. It was so different being with these girls than any of the other ones. They are all people I could see myself being friends with naturally. They told me to come to the next event which is Tuesday I think they're playing softball with a frat and then getting $1 burgers. So yeah I'm excited to get to know these girls. They dont have bid day for like 2 more weeks. (a bid is an invitation to be in a sorority). The national sorority's bid day is today. You can get a bid from a sorority if they pref you back.
Ok well I have to get ready. I'm going home to go to my cousins' birthday party. No clue if I'm coming back to school tonight or towmorrow so if you're home feel free to give me a call :)
