Friday night Zoe and I got to go out on our own for an evening. The plan had been to get some dinner over at washingtonian plaza and then catch Inkheart at the Rio.
Well, dinner took a little longer than necessary as Zoe is notoriously slow at the eating sometimes. I had gotten a desert (a delicious fried dough concoction) and cut some bites off for her to have when she was done with her dinner. She was then happily eating her desert when all of a sudden she snatched a big piece off of my side with her fork announcing "first it was yours, then it was mine!" and popped it into her mouth. Cheeky Monkey.
We got to the theater just as the movie was about to start only to find out there were only 12 seats left - that was not going to work. I explained to Zoe that it was sold out and of course she wanted to see something else instead... but there really wasn't anything else playing for kids. I was telling her the names of the posters cause she didn't want to give up and when we got to Underworld, she "Yes, Underworld. Let's sign up for that one." I figure she'd probably be fine with it, but I figured it was probably one that should get a parental previewing first. I had to practically drag her out of the ticket line as she was quite set on seeing underworld.
So I told her we'd have to go someplace else and find something to do. She wanted to make very clear that this "someplace else" was not "home". She did seem molified when I mentioned we had the dvd of Underworld at home, but we ended up stopping off at Target and she picked out a couple movies instead and we took them home to watch. She picked "Annie" (the classic version) and "Gremlins". She wanted to watch Gremlins when we got home, but I convinced her to watch Annie instead because I was pretty sure everyone else would appreciate it if we watched it when they were not home. Now, she's seen it before, so it wasn't new, but she wanted to do the sing alongs and all that fun stuff that probably would have killed the boys.
The next morning she got up early before everyone else and watched Gremlins (which she's also seen before) on the little portable dvd player cause she said it would be too scary on the big tv. She is still in love with Gizmo.
That night we went to a Terps game with tickets from work and she cheered and jumped all over the place in her "fear the turtle" shirt (thankfully 1st row seats allow sufficient room for jumping without bothering too many others). I was surprised at how easy it was to get in and out of there for the game.
Anyways, Sunday I wake up and go downstairs to find Zoe spread out on the couch with the penguins blanket over her intently watching an episode of Monk. Ah, the ecclectic taste of a 6-year-old.
