I've often wondered about the power of one's name.
Does one's first name, say, evoke more power than using their last name or a nickname? I noticed that I refrain from using one's name (first name) during a conversation, with the exception of the start of the conversation; the use of their last names or a nickname isn't as odd for me. I feel especially awkward when adults ask me them to call them by their first name. I find that I simply cannot do that. Is there any reason why this happens? I've wondered if it's because if there's one thing that belongs completely to a person, it's their name. I don't know if that makes sense. It's still odd.
