If You Think To Ask

I am a dirty hippie. I can tell because in moments of despair, I close my eyes and quote the free-will astrologer, who tells us that the universe is conspiring is shower you with blessings. Last week's blessing came in the form of snot, because the universe is inscrutable and a little bit mean. This week's blessings come in the form of Gram Rabbit ( Read more... )

So far this week the universe has showered me with the blessings of getting into two elite classes that will be electives, two possible internships, an invitation to the j-school honors program, my first specialty show, two fill-in shows, and my first invitation to DJ a regular club night. Also, hayfever.

Not to sound ungrateful, but the universe can knock it the hell off, already. I get it, but there's such a thing as taking a gag too far.

what sort of music are you looking for?

I'm thinking of something 1960's Mancini cartoon-ish. I want something approximately 3:30 long that is easy to choreograph to. I usually make a point of performing to relatively contemporary music because I perform during a burlesque show where a lot of vintage music gets played, but this time something instrumental and cartoony is appropriate.

I assume you're going with "Baby Elephant Walk?"

Don't know how you feel about it, but I'd love to see someone choreograph a routine for "Nightmare."

Baby Elephant Walk is not quite long enough. I've got a 4 minute version of the Pink Panther Theme that might work, though. I've seen burlesque routines done to Nightmare before, but I don't think I've seen an aerial act. The biggest problem is that songs under three minutes don't give you enough time for an intro, an outro, and a satisfying number of tricks. A lot of performers get around this problem by doing a medley of two or three songs, but I don't want to have an abrupt shift in style or tone in this act.

Later this year, I will do the Fairy Tale show, for which I may use two songs. I would like to do an act about a Princess that turns into a Witch.

Shannon Lark actually probably has a spare severed head. I think we might have one up in the DNA halloween decor too. poke me at MEAT on thursday, and I can go look.

re: music, I've been dying to see someone do anything to this from triplets of belleville (though it's probably too fast):

I will ask about the severed head on Thursday. I am supposed to come out to MEAT anyhow.

Triplets of Belleville is adorable, but I'd like to do something purely instrumental for this act. It already has a plot, and I don't want to potentially confuse the audience with unrelated lyrics. I might use some Triplets of Belleville in the Fairy Tale show, if I can resist stealing from Into the Woods.
