i actually sorta hate the song in the subject, but whatever. it was fitting. so today is January 1st (actually 2nd, technically, since it's after midnight) and I'm feeling thoughtful. looking back on this year, I feel like I've made a lot of changes in my life and I felt a need to write them down somewhere so that some day I can look back and remember all this stuff and how much it has affected me. you don't have to read this. it's more personal reflection than anything else, but if you want to, feel free. comment. discuss. tell me of what you've done this year. Here's my 20 things that I'm proud of looking back on 2005:
1. joined CADETs and met an amazing group of people. learned a lot about myself and about how I can make a real difference at Loyola.
2. became CADET co-coordinator and am now employed in Loyola's ADESS office.
3. went to Orlando, Florida for the Bacchus and Gamma peer leadership conference. went to SeaWorld and met Shamu. fantastic time :)
4. made so many absolutely wonderful new friends: the 28E and 27F girls, the CADETs, JUSTICE kids, Best Buddies, Aileen's funny friends, aaah the list goes on....i definitely realized that i was wrong about Loyola being full of rich snobs that I can't relate to. it's still full of rich snobs, but some of them are really cool. haha :P
5. saw some amazing bands/people in concert (Dar Williams, Black Label Society, GIGANTOUR with Megadeth and Dream Theater and many more, Anubis and all the cool kids in that band, Fools and Horses, and other local bands. probably more I forgot)
6. went camping. pitched a tent. made smores. the whole shabang.
7. went to New York City several times, probably more than any other year in the past. saw Wicked and Avenue Q and visited lots of museums and Central Park. saw Conan live. fun times.
8. got my passport and booked flights for my first trip out of the US to Belgium with Greg. can't wait :)
9. applied to study abroad in Cagli, Italy for a month this summer....waiting to hear if I got in ::crosses fingers::
10. brought my GPA to the highest it has ever been. made DEAN'S LIST!!
11. got a job that I actually enjoy at Best Buy and met lots of great people there. make tons of sweet moolah, not to mention nice discounts.
12. got nominated to be a Center For Values and Services Student Coordinator and an RA....I think I'm going to apply for the RA job when I get back from break. as if I haven't added enough to my plate. hah.
13. joined JUSTICE and Best Buddies and looooooove them
14. went to the Snow Ball and had a fantastic time. first one on the dance floor, last one to leave. Tori and I bring the party ;)
15. explored Baltimore much more than in the past. fun times at Sonar, Cafe Hon, Hampden, Fells Point, Petticoat Tea Room, Iguana Cantina, etc.
16. got my own radio show on WLOY (listen in Fridays from 4-6pm!!)
17. became aquainted with the wonders of South Street in Philly
18. asked to submit 5 of my poems for publication in Loyola's annual Garland book...still haven't done that...sorta shy about my poetry. but an honor to have been asked nonetheless :)
19. ran and completed a 5k on New Year's Eve. quite a nice way to end the year.
20. toasted the New Year with great friends and feel fantastic about life. what more can I ask for?
so that's my list. I'm sorry if I sound full of myself or something. I don't mean to. I just feel really good looking back on this year...I'm proud of what I've accomplished, much more so than ever before. I really wanted to write it all down because I know I'll want to remember these things. aaah this is such a new and happy feeling :) For the first time in a long time I feel as though I'm really living my life and finding fulfillment in everything. I hope everyone else had a year as amazing as mine was. I really am grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way, and for all the amazing new people that have come into my life. I love you all. Happy New Year!!
