Ever since I got this 2002 PowerMac G4 mirrored-drive door computer from ebay (about 18 months ago, I think) I've had one problem after another. I've tried more RAM, different RAM, a new hard drive and running all the software fixers , all of which helped a little. The kernel panics (Mac equivalent of Blue Screen of Death) are much less frequent. However for the past week or two my browsers have been quitting unexpectedly on a daily basis. I upgraded Flash player two days ago, which seems to have made it worse. It's particularly annoying because my husband's computer (same model) is solid as a rock. Long story short: I'll need a newer computer anyway when the new OS (10.6, Snow Leopard) is released, probably in the summer. And I have a birthday next month.
Since I already have a working monitor, keyboard, and mouse I'm considering the Mac Mini. I've already looked at the websites describing how to open it to add RAM and they describe it as a major chore. So that's a minus since I like to tinker. If I buy used I'll have to purchase a stand-alone copy of Snow Leopard, probably $100 with the educator discount.
Would all my headaches disappear? That's the $700 question.
