Guess what I've been doing!? Nothing. But today has been kinda different. I look out my window this morning wondering what the hell my dog Tubby is barking at and I spot a smallish cow moose in the trees next to the house. Big deal, right? A moose is a moose is a moose, is a... well you get the idea. This moose in particular was laying flat out in the snow, and I thought "Great. A DEAD moose. Thats all I need." Because normally moose NEVER lay that way... unless they really are dead. So I walked out there and got a little closer and it lifted its head at me and got up, which was good for the moose, since it turned out not to be dead. But it does have a bit of a problem. It has its foot stuck in a five gallon gas can. One of those plastic red ones some people keep in thier car for emergencies and whatnot. Right through the narrow rectangular handle. She seemed to be pretty exhausted and in some distress. So I called the troopers and they took a message and didnt sound too terribly interested or concerned. So I watched this moose for a while hobble about three legged like with this plastic gas can jammed around its hock and decided to call a few other people and finally got someone who cared. Finally got a trooper to agree to come out with a biologist from fish and game to try and dart it. Looked out the window and the moose had dissapeared. So I go out and strap on my snowshoes and follow her rather distinct tracks untill I spotted her laying down in the woods over the hill. It looks like she's not going far, but I discovered some stuff.... 1. I am fond of snowshoeing! 2. I am still rather afraid of the stupid moose. I found more than just little Gas Can Foot. I found like five more just hanging out eating on trees while I was out. So now I am INSIDE with a cup of tea instead of tromping around trying to get myself stomped, and Im waiting for the troopers hopefully with a biologist in tow. So. Kinda exciting.
