IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN.

Yeah, Christmas.

I've never been a huge fan of Christmas. Not in a scrooge-way anyway, I don't hate it or dislike it but it just doesn't really elicit any sense of excitement in me. Sure it's Christmas, a time of giving and receiving, spending time with the people you love, wrapping up a year gone by, reminiscing on what has happened throughout 2011. But me and my family don't really celebrate it, we're not the religious kind maybe, but I never knew you had to be religious to celebrate Christmas in the first place!

I guess I celebrate it in my own sort of way, I do the whole giving presents to my family and loved ones, but definitely no decorations around the house or Christmas tree. Christmas has become different to what it used to be for our family. When my brother and I were little kids, Mum and Dad would usually set up the Christmas tree every year like usual but as we got older, we had less time to put up decorations and fix up Christmas trees. We just saw Christmas decorations as something that would be taken down shortly after Christmas had passed, if so, then why put them up in the first place?

I'm not criticising Christmas in any way, I'm just saying I've grown up to not really pay much attention to it, the importance of the 25th has never been emphasised to me by my parents. Could be a bad thing, could be a good thing, but either way it doesn't really hold much importance to me. The 25th in our household is a day spent with the family, eating together as a family, spending time away from the computer and not doing any work. Sounds like a normal Sunday family day to me.

But I know that when I have kids, Christmas will be one of those days where it is celebrated through giving and receiving, it's nice to have a day in the year where you can be a family and open presents together, eat together and spend the whole night talking right?
