Prompt: What if Kirk's meeting Pike in that bar wasn't by chance.

What if Winona was worried about her son's lack of direction in life, so in desperation, she called Pike (Geroge's former lover) to ask for his help, because she finds herself out of options.

Maybe she admits that she made her mistakes raising Jim, but she wants to see him get his act together and make something out of his life.

I'd like to see that conversation between her and Pike, with Pike agreeing to help Jim.

Christopher Pike had been through many unpleasant surprises in his life. Not counting that one frightful trip to that one planet where the locals had tried to offer him virtual sex, most of these surprises had revolved around one or more of his personal relationships. Which is why he thought he shouldn’t have been surprised when a certain blonde called him one evening as he prepared to spend a night relaxing.

“Hello Christopher,” came the shaky, melodic voice on the other side of the line.

Pike blinked. “Winona, what a pleasant surprise. How long has it been since we last spoke? Ten years, fifteen?”

He heard Winona sigh. “I need to ask a favour of you, Chris.”

“What is it this time, Winona?” Pike said, rather more harshly than he intended.

“It’s Jim. I...” her voice broke. “I’m so desperate, Chris, I didn’t know who else I could call.”

“What about Jim?” Pike asked, frowning slightly at the thought of the boy who was rumoured to look so much like his father.

“He has no direction in life, Chris. He’s already been in jail once, not to mention the tens of barfights and misdemeanours he’s been in trouble for over the years. I’m worried he’s going to do something even more stupid one day and end up in jail, or worse, dead.”

“And whose fault would that be, Winona?” Pike said wryly. “You couldn’t have expected the boy to become a model citizen with how you’ve raised him...”

“This is not about me!” Winona cut him off. “I admit I was a bad mother. I admit that I was never there for the boys. This is about Jim, Chris. This is about making sure that Jim has a future.”

“And what do you expect me to do about him?” Pike asked.

“I need you to talk to him .You were always so good at helping people find themselves, inspiring them to be better, to do good in their lives.”

Pike was silent, contemplating her words.

“Please, Chris. I’m all out of options. If you can’t bring yourself to do this for me, then at least do it for George, in his memory.”

This hit Pike hard. He did owe it to George, to make up for the time when he had hurt the blond man so badly that it had sent him running to Winona. Winona had never been ignorant about what had transpired between him and George, and he was more than a little hurt at her bringing it up like this.

He sighed and ran his hands through his hair. “Alright, I’ll talk to him.”

He heard Winona let out a sigh of relief. “Thank you, Chris. This really does mean a lot to me.” When Pike didn’t respond she continued, “He’ll be at bar in town. He goes there almost every night now.”

“I’ll be there,” Pike said as he hung up the phone, his heart heavy.
