Dreams

I woke this morning after yet another dream of the end of the world.

My husband and I were parked in our motor home on a beach in Oregon. It was the beach of a large lake over looking Mount Hood. It was dusk and I was walking the beach looking out at this huge full moon and talking to my sister on the cell phone. The moon was glinting off the water and the stars were twinkling merrily overhead and I was watching the reflections off the water.

I hung up with my sister and was just about to go back to the motor home when I glanced up at Mount Hood. I saw this puff of smoke from the top of it and then it turned red and I could see rocks being flung out of the top. I knew Mount Hood was a volcano but there had not been even a peep out of it in decades and now all of a sudden it was blowing it's top. I was scared and called my mother. I told her about Mount Hood and asked her what she thought it meant. In a very calm voice she said that it was the end of the world. I asked if she was not afraid to die in this type of thing. She, again oh-so calmly, answered that no, she was not afraid. She knew precisely where she was going when she died.

After getting off the phone with my mother I ran back to the Motor home and flung myself on the bed next to my husband. I cuddled up next to him and told him that if it were the end of the world I wanted to die making love to him. We tried with him on top and he could not get the energy to do anything so I switched places. I looked outside the window and saw the beach was turning into molten rock and cooling lava. I was again very frightened.

The motor home was suddenly in a deep "puddle". So deep it was floating in it. One side of the puddle started to steam and boil as lava began to pour out of the ground near it. I was on top of my husband and my side was exposed to that side of the motor home and I could feel and hear my skin beginning to blister. I screamed and cowered against my husband, the motor home rocked in the water when I moved and turned so the lava was not as close to the side of the motor home. However I heard the rear passenger tire explode and heard the metal beginning to creak and groan under the heat.

My husband asked me to reach for the printer paper, I was afraid of getting burned again but I did so. He said he might know of a way to get us out of where we were and into a place that might not have begun to get lava yet. I asked him if he thought this was only going to happen in certain places in the world. He replied that he wasn't sure but he doubted it was the true end of the world. He got into the driver's seat and turned the motor home on and I wondered if we would be able to go anywhere with the rear tire in the fix it was in.

That was when my alarm went off. The dream was so real I could literally feel my skin burning and hear the sounds of tortured metals. I woke up with a start... I hate dreams like that. Ones that are frighteningly real... but I think my husband might have been right. I do believe the world has "ended" more than once. After all... what was the ice age but an ending?

Well, I have to take my shower and get ready for work... hopefully the world doesn't end in any of the ways I have dreamt. I will post my other armageddon dream when I get home.
