I have an idea for a show that I need to get the proposal in for June. Its all about womens experiences with Motherhood, or the thoughts and feelings women have toward having Children. So I was just wondering if all you ladies could help me out with telling me a few things that may give me a few ideas ( Read more... )

Funny, i was ranting about this the other day at Geoff. Except i was drunk and am therefore feeling less angry about the subject! Sounds very interesting :)

1) Are you a mother? What do you enjoy about having children?
No.

2)Is there anything you dont enjoy about being a Mother?
N/A

3)Do you want to have children? If so why/why not?
No. I really don't like them, it's hard to explain but even today when i was drawing things in a museum i abandoned one of my drawings and left for another area of the museum because the squealing of the school trip the other side of the hall was getting me angry. It's silly and i should be more tolerant but i just have a gut reaction of general annoyance towards children! I'm also nervous around babies and find them very ugly. Hannah from uni has her baby now and i want to stay good friends with her even though she has a new responsibility but i find being with her and the baby awkward and slightly embarassing because i don't know how to act!
I have safely assumed that i am not exactly mother nature and when that maternal clock ticks louder i'll probably wonder what the hell's going on and either turn to booze or buy more cats!

4) Would you rather have a successful career or be a Mother?
Unsuprisingly given the above, a successful career! I also feel like by becoming a mother you are sacrificing a certain standard of life for the life of another. I think i'm probably far too self centered to understand that appeal.

5) What do you think is a good age to start having children?
Piff! I want my sister to have her (ginger, she tells me!) kids in her mid 30's so she will have already set up and made successful (i hope!) her illustration career.
Maybe her kids won't annoy me, i'll probably have become more tolerant in my old age and can be the 'cool auntie'. Aslong as it's not my walls they're scrawling Crayola on i don't care!
