Here's why I don't like capital punishment:
Capital punishment is reserved for only the most heinous of criminals. These individuals are most likely serial killers of some creepy sort. So we catch them and sentence them to the death penalty. These criminals, however, are so accustomed and comfortable with death, I may even venture to say "terribly knowledgable" about it- nay, pathological- that surely their own death would not be such a hardship.
Then again, once they have reached the point of arrest, where unless they escape from prison, God forbid, they have no more control over their obsession. Thus, they live a more mild lifestyle. Take a serial killer recently caught who, when arrested, tried, and interviewed, confessed that he was glad for his arrest because one, he knew he needed to be locked up, and two, he now had no more control over his burning desire, thus, given its total unavailability, would have no need to satisfy it.
Thus, there are things worse than death, but to the truly pathological, can there be a difference between solitude and imprisonment years before hell and a short trip down the waiting list to hell?
Hm. Discuss.
