Confession: I am starting to like fall a little bit. I have always disliked fall, mostly due to its unfortunate proximity to winter. Once it starts getting cold, it's all downhill for the next 8 months, as far as I'm concerned. People say I should take up skating, or skiing, or bobsledding, and then I will learn to love winter. All I really want to take up in the winter is hot-chocolate-drinking and two-pairs-of-socks-wearing.
But fall makes me want to buy binders and packages of lined paper, and learn a new language, and make soup using butternut squash. Fall makes me want to start new things and make progress on old things. Mostly, it makes me want to make the most of the next 2 months, before my electric blanket becomes a non-negotiable necessity, as does my moaning about how I was struck with hypothermia between the front door and the inside of the car.
