Last Wednesday, the Health Coaches, Health Advisors, and I were told our department is over-staffed. Now, I knew the summer time was typically the "slow time" for our field, but didn't expect this. The big-wigs of our company over-projected how many participants would enroll in the coaching program by 4,000 people. 4,000. They expected 10,000 people to be in coaching. Wow. Big difference, right? To get ourselves out of the bind, they're asking everyone (about 30 of us) to voluntarily take 9 - 10 PTO/unpaid days between now and mid-September. If that doesn't happen, people are going to get laid off. One coach has already expressed this is something she cannot do. And how do they decide who gets laid off, you say? By seniority, of course. In other words, I'll be one of the first to go since I was the last person to get hired on FT. I'm not angry, upset, or stressed. I'm just content; just going with the flow. Weird, right? I am also confused because I've been told I'm one of their top Advisors, have a great attitude, and I also get the most participants in to the coaching program (which makes the company more dolla dolla bills). I guess seniority rules over talent and skill in the corporate world. I still value myself and the skills I have to offer, however.
Whatever happens, happens though. In one situation, I'll come away with a steady paycheck and health insurance. In the other situation, I'll have time to enjoy the summer weather, time to dedicate myself to job searching, AND an opportunity to try something new. With either situation, I'll have at least 10 days off to do something this summer. And I'm fine with that.
End of day tomorrow I will know my fate with HealthFitness. Who knows what the day, or the rest of the year, will bring!
