Groan, what do you do about relatives that are fundamentalist Christians? I consider myself a Secular Humanist, and I'm really starting to get sick of the comments they make on my Facebook. The last one I believe, was directed at me.
Just because I made a comment about a posting one of them made about a story of a couple. The husband wanted to divorce his wife and upon telling her he wanted a divorce, she asked him in the meantime could he carry her over the threshold for a month? Seriously, like a man who is intent on divorcing is going to do this! Anyway, to make a long story short, she was dying of cancer and didn't want him to leave until she was dead, just so their son wouldn't know about it. Come on.
Anyway, I wrote about the unbelievability of it and even found it on Snopes. My nephew's (the one who posted it) fiancee wrote, "Why not?", like it could really happen. Well yeah, I suppose it could happen, but it was as likely to happen as Mother Theresa becoming a spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood! That's what I wrote. Then he goes on his Facebook later and posts how he's so saddened that there are 'those' that mock and criticize God. Okay, I wasn't doing that now! I was just trying to point out something. Grrr... I wish I could reach out and slap these people, but I would come across as a bigger devil than I already am perceived. Sigh!
