Yikes! Another birthday has passed me by... What did I do? The only thing I COULD do: I worked, LOL! The Beast behaved wonderfully this week, I tried square cutting a log on Tues (doing that pretty much wiped me out for the day), but with a little more practice, I can get really good with finetuning on the broad axe. Then we got back to our regularly scheduled surveying for the rest of the week.
On Monday we have a briefing to attend on personal safety in the forest. It seems that lately there's been a rash of incidents that have put Forest Service personnel in danger, and in one case, murdered. That case was the LEO that was shot and killed on the Olympic Natl Forest last year (she had her K9 with her, but he was in the rig when she was shot). The man that shot her had apparently killed some relatives and was hiding from the law in the woods when the LEO came upon him in his truck. There have also been some stream surveyers that have been accosted at gunpoint too. It seems that coming across humans in the woods is getting to be more dangerous than coming across bears or a moose! Thankfully, for us, that hasn't been the case. No humans = good!
