Crankiness and compulsive doodling

Jun 30, 2006 01:47

I don't draw for a living. I draw because I like to, because I want to create prettiness, because I need an emotional outlet.

Like today.

I blew a watercolor painting this morning. Two hours of extreme concentration and my precious watercolor paper went to hell. Work sucked later - yelling at kids two days before their first term assessment was no fun, especially when (a) they are immune to being yelled at, and (b) you're not immune to being disregarded.

What's more, Internet connection@home has been f*cked up since the beginning of this week. I can only use the net at the wee hours of midnight. The tech support told me that they're currently investigating the cause. Funny that it had made me feel worse not getting angry at anybody, for the frustration remained and there's no way to let out.

So, to remediate my crankiness, I hid in the library (again) when I didn't have class and drew like there's no tomorrow. It felt like purging, and it felt good.

And so, I drew sketches for Lumos H/D gathering.

1. One way (broom) ride (ETA: won by cmere)

2. Lumos

3. (This reminds me of the statue in the study hall of my alma mater, which is a Catholic school)

4. Morning smile. Inspired by Not Ours to Command, author not known (go read, if you haven't).

All done on xerox paper with pencil and ballpen. Oh, and whiteboard marker too.

These sketches will be given away, along with other gorgeous sketches and awesome ficlets by other artists/writers (as I was told), to fans at the two H/D gatherings for free. As much as I'd like to, I won't be going to Lumos this year. :-( If you're going (*envy stares*) and you like H/D, join the gatherings and spread some love, will you? :-)

ETA: Please do not use without permission of the recipients of these sketches. This is the only time I ask you not to use them for icons and stuff - but of course you can save them for personal viewing pleasure. I'll try to find out who gets these sketches after the con and ask if I could post their contact info here.

I'm seriously considering going to sectus next year. If I start saving money now I should be able to come up with a plane ticket next year. Anybody else's going? My aunt lives in Surrey, and I might be able to stay with her. Her place is close to the whatever Thames station. I hope it's not too far from the convention venue.

Things are gonna be better tomorrow. They've got to be better. :-)
