This is BEAUTIFUL! And so sad - it made me choke up. I love your artwork.
They're making you pay the gift money? Ugh, that's not fair. I didn't have to when I moved into my flat in Japan. It's a stupid tradition. :( I'm sorry about your computer woes.
Yeah it's worth two month's rent. I still can't understand the purpose of this Gift Money, esp in the area that I'm living in right now. There is so much land out there! Why do I have to thank anybody for sparing me a space to live?
Actually...my apartment was so old and ugly that I think they felt a little guilty about putting me there, so maybe that's the real reason I never had to pay the Gift Money. (And my rent was pretty cheap, too.) I didn't even have a heated toilet seat. *sniffle*
I think Gift Money is just one of those Polite Japanese Things. I'm all for politeness, but...ehhh. Not when it costs losts of money. ^_^
Sorry for ranting. Hope you're doing well. :-)
Any time. :)
I am surviving the summer. I'm not missing the heat and humidity of Japan in summer.
Do you get a vacation in the summer? Are you going to do anything fun? I went to Australia for ten days and it was expensive but WONDERFUL.
That was very nice and bittersweet. I think it works very well without the quotes and without other words.
Can I ask a nosy question about the gift money thing? Just because I've never encountered it before. Is it like a security deposit or is it sort of just under the table because you "like them so much" or something?
Thanks. I'm relieved to hear that the comic doesn't need too much explanation.
From what I've heard, Japan is a small country and land is scarce, so tenants pay gift money to their landlords to express their gratitude, because their landlords kindly granted a space for them to live. It's their weird tradition. A friend of mine also had to pay gift money when he's in Malaysia, but perhaps it's just because he's a Japanese.
Japanese people usually pay security deposit in addition to gift money. The deposit is about 1 - 3 months rent. It's so insane.
You've seriously outdone youself this time again. That comic was absolutely BREATHTAKING!!! So beautiful and sad at the same time. I def know a lot of thought and work was put out to these pieces. The compositions were well rendered and laid out. I especially love the 3rd and 4th panel when Sirius leans in to kiss Lupin and leading to a great cropped version with Lupin's hand lingering over his. So romantic.........
Thank you very much for commenting. :-) I'm glad that you liked this comic.
Re the cropping: it's partly for the effect, and partly because I was lazy and didn't bother drawing the rest of their bodies... but I'm thrilled that it worked well.

I always want a happier story, but the happy muse never visits.
And thank you - I don't know what my new school is like exactly, but I'll do my best. :-)
