Once in a while, you should send a mass email to everyone in your address book, in which you begin by apologizing for the mass email. Tell them what you are doing, give them your current address, and ask them to write you back telling you what they are doing.

Some highlights:

--My old French professor wrote me back. He's finally gotten to teach the film course he's been wanting to do for fifteen years. His wife is struggling with cancer. But his spirits are good.

--The two Dutch guys I met in Bucharest are still alive and kicking. Raimo met a Latvian girl, and finds every excuse to go see her.

--On of my scholarship coordinators, Marie, is about to take a sabbatical with her husband, but seems to enjoy living in Ellensburg.

--Organfailure is still applying for postdocs.

--A number of people I haven't talked to in years have let their email addresses go defunct.

--An in city attorney friend has bought a house in the Green Lake area.

--Ashley is successful at IU, and sounds like she will marry her boyfriend. (Why am I always the guy before the husband?)

Anyway, try it yourself. You may find some surprises.
