So this is what's been going on.

We found a house. It was beautiful and perfect and in a lovely neighborhood and needed no work at all. We were going to go to the bank on Friday and put in an offer that evening. The bank was closed on Friday because of construction, so we postponed until Monday. You can see where this is going.

For the past few weeks, Kristen had been telling me about a surprise that I was getting on Saturday (last Saturday, that is). She said it was a stripper, but dropped some hints that we were going to Williamsburg. Also, I got a call from the dog boarding place confirming a reservation that I didn't know anything about, so that confirmed that we were going out of town. On Friday night, Kristen couldn't take it any more and sat me down at the computer, where she had a PowerPoint presentation up and ready to go. It went something like this:

-This Father's day weekend, let's celebrate the men who made us who we are...
-Oh who am I kidding. We both had shitty fathers.
-I'm talking about the founding fathers!
-We're going to PHILADELPHIA!!
and then a picture of Ben Franklin as a pimp popped up and the theme from Rocky started playing. It was pretty awesome. Also, I was promised
-Fine musicians... (picture of Jefferson playing the violin from 1776
-Street fights
-Getting laid

Saturday we got up very early and dropped Pinto off at boarding. The drive to Philly wasn't bad at all. When we got there it was far too early to check into the hotel, so we went straight to Eastern State Penitentiary, which was just about the coolest thing I've ever seen. Kristen took some amazing pictures, too.

Then we checked into the hotel and sat around naked for a while until we decided what to do next, which was going to the Italian market. Kristen bought three pounds of cherries. She would have gotten five, but I was mean about it. We had a delicious lunch at Villa di Roma, where we got to listen to the Angriest Man On Earth. He was really pissed off and just couldn't shut up about it. It was pretty distracting.

After that, we walked up and down fabric row and didn't buy anything. We did find a store at which we plan to purchase all the curtains for our future house, though.

After a brief stop at the hotel, we went out drinking. We started at Cuba Libre with the intention to bar-hop. The next stop was Brownie's, which turned out to be the sort of dive bar that's mostly filled with "retired" cops, who all play country music on the jukebox. They had some good beers on tap, so we hung out for a while. Then it started raining like mad, so we ordered more beer. For the record, Victory Flying Monkey tastes like crap (in the same way that Delirium Tremens does), but gets you fucked up. We finally stumbled out, stopped at Cosi to pee 3 blocks later, and then made out in front of Independence Hall for a while. Then we made out in front of the Liberty Bell. Then we made the great decision to go to the hotel bar and order double manhattans. We talked to a drunk old broad for a while, and then went up to our room to try to get a cheesesteak delivered. All the places were only serving Pizza, so we put our clothes back on and walked to Sonny's and got some tasty fucking cheesesteaks, which we took back to the hotel so that we could enjoy them with the Wawa chocolate milk that we'd bought earlier. I tried whiz, and liked it.

Sunday morning we got up early(ish), had coffee, and went to look at historical things. We did the tour of Independence hall, which was lead by an angry man with a funny speech impediment the prevented him from saying "continental." We walked around a lot and saw cool things, and generally had a good time. We went to the City Tavern for lunch, and it was amazingly good. The beer was good too - so good that Kristen missed out on a great opportunity to make a Thomas Jefferson/brown sugar comment, which was sad.

By 3:00 we were completely exhausted, and wanted to get home in time to pick up Pinto. There was traffic, so we didn't, and spent the night whining about missing her.

Here are all the Philly pictures!

Monday morning we went to pick up Pinto and she wasn't feeling very well. We got to work and got an email that the house was gone.

Monday night Pinto was feeling even worse, so we drove her to South Paws (and got lost around the way, making what should have been a 20 minute drive take over an hour). They diagnosed nothing and treated everything, giving her antibiotics and a de-wormer. They also injected some subcutaneous fluids, which Kristen had never seen before. When they brought Pinto out, Kristen's reaction was to scream "OH MY GOD!!!" and then turn to the wall. Pinto felt a little better for a while, but then worse again. Last night we started giving her Pepto and Pedialyte, and it seems to be helping. Kristen is working from home today and I'm going to try to do the same tomorrow so we can look after the bean.

So that's that. House hunting is on pause for the moment, the dog's sick as a dog, and I don't want to be at work.
