OMG. A few weeks ago, I was complaining to my mom that one of my greatest talents, that of remembering every single word to every single song every written, is a useless skill. "How can I use this ability to make money?" I said, though I have to confess I didn't think it could be done.

Well, I'm happy to announce that I have been proven dead wrong! There's actually a show on New Zealand TV called "The Singing Bee" in which contestants have to recall song lyrics! The winner gets $30,000! Does that sound like it was made for me, or what?! The only problem is, they don't really draw on musical songs, so I'd have to lay off the Broadway and brush up on the 80s pop. Even so, it's like a dream come true!

I feel much better today, but I sound much worse - my voice is a pitiful little squeak. I was embarrassed today at the after-school band rehearsal at Lindisfarne (the neighboring boys school) when Alana introduced me to the band director. "Does she play a band instrument?" he asked Alana. (It's not usual for teachers to play in the band - Alana herself plays euphonium in the back.) "She's a singer," Alana replied. I extended my hand to shake his, and... "Hi, I'm Emily," I croaked, sounding much more like a rusty gate than an aspiring soprano. Ay me. (For the record, I committed to playing mallet percussion for the term, which I'm excited about.)
