Last night we joined
gdaniels and the lovely
msarty for one last Restaurant Week dinner at Dalya's in Bedford.
Bedford is one of the lacunae in my personal map of the Boston area, so it was nice to figure out where it fits into the general scheme, and to find another restaurant with easy parking within fifteen minutes of home. They had a wide variety of starters on the
menu and I had a hard time choosing, but had to go with the beef carpaccio. It was lacking in lemon and a little heavy on the parmesan, but otherwise very tasty. April had the mixed baby greens, while both of the guys took the lentil & ham soup. It definitely needed salt, but after that amendment was so good that I could have eaten a bowl of it and I am not generally a fan of lentils in any form. April and I both had the salmon glazed with soy and kaffir lime on a bed of lime sushi rice served with asparagus, tomatoes and a white wine-saffron/tarragon sauce. The fish was very nicely done, but the sushi rice was stickier than any nigiri. The guys both had the sirloin with mushroom-red wine sauce, asparagus and roasted red bliss potatoes, with the blue d'auvergne butter on the side, since neither of them care for blues. For dessert, Glen took the coupe of coffee ice cream with coffee-brandy sauce, garnished with whipped cream and bits of chocolate. Jason had the nicely tangy lemon mousse with fresh berries, while April and I both indulged in the "bananas Foster" bread pudding a la mode. That was moist and wonderful and a third one brought to the table by mistake provided bites for the others.
Tonight we took advantage of the 20% off special at
Scutra with
tcb and
goat.
We had been there a few years ago with
gdaniels and not been overly impressed, but enough people have raved about it that we decided it was worth another try. I started with the lobster-leek strudel, which was marvelous, while the others had a special starter of coconut battered oysters served on a salad of avocado and tomato. Liz and Jason both took the evening's seafood special of sea bass served on a bed of vegetables with a wonderful wasabi cream sauce. Ted had the pork osso bucco, with a fig burgundy glaze, while I had the incredibly tender veal tenderloin with parmesan-portobello risotto. For dessert, Jason and I shared a fantastic eggnog cheesecake topped with a cinnamon-walnut crust, while the others split the molten lava cake. Just as we were finishing our coffee, Alice gave her first sound of the evening, reminding us that she has never, ever been fed, so we hastened home, but we'll definitely be back!
