And so it begins...

Last night was our first read-through, where we also dealt with a lot of the start-up administrivia--getting people measured for costumes, photographed for makeup, filling out contact sheets, signing up for workdays, explaining the rehearsal schedule and handing out various pieces of information. Everyone was very patient with us as we got through all of that stuff and seemed to be having a good time catching up with familiar faces and introducing themselves to the new folk. A lot of staff/crew came to meet up and listen--looks like we've got a very interesting group of talented people on that side, too.

And we did actually read through the play. There are some typos in the script and a couple of remaining inconsistencies I missed when cutting it, but overall I'm very pleased with how well it hangs together and how quickly it moves. My cast is amazing! I'm always excited to see a cast discovering a new script and beginning to play with each other--now I really begin to see what show it is that I will do and I think it's going to be a really good one. I just hope that I can help them to keep that spontaneity and playfulness while digging in deep on the language and characters. It's sometimes hard not to rehearse the funny out of stuff, but I think we can have a lot of fun with this one.

A big yay to y'all!
