You know, I'm sick of a lot of stuff that Mean People Who Think They're Smart But Aren't (also known as 'right wingers') like to say. But one I'm especially sick of is, 'America is the only country where poor people are FAT!' Thus ridiculing both the poor and the overweight -- the implication being that OUR poor people clearly eat like kings, and need to just stop their whining.
But you can be fat and VERY poorly nourished. 'Fat' is by no means an indicator of prosperity! That is so damn ignorant. It's the opposite! ESPECIALLY in a country where medical care for the poor is usually nonexistent.
I'm guessing there is rampant undiagnosed hypoglycemia and diabetes amongst the poor, who in the absence of medical advice or knowledge simply eat according to their cravings, which makes them gain even more weight and makes them constantly tired. Probably lots of other untreated conditions would contribute to obesity amongst the poor, like hypothyroidism, and depression.
But they're just lazy and indulgent, you know. They would make PLENTY of money, like NORMAL people, if they just didn't choose to eat and sleep so much. Why don't they just join a $100 a month gym like everyone else? ::rolls eyes::
