colds and foods

This journal hasn't been updated in a while and we apologize for that. Frank will soon update you on what has happened since July. Kick his butt if he doesn't!

This week, Melody had her first ever cold. Not much, really, just a runny nose. But that's bad enough for a little girl who has never experienced anything like that before. Sunday and Monday she was a poor, whining little Jedi. Today, she seems to be just about back to her normal self.

Today she tried baby food for the first time. Only a little taster; a few teaspoons' worth of potatoe-and-corn purée. She liked it. Most of it went down perfectly. But of course, we had to change her clothes afterwards. But that was kind of expected. Still, it wasn't bad for a first try, we think. No crying and no food splattering all over the table.

Baby Melody is now just about 4.5 months old and we just sorted her clothes so that she only has European size 62. Generally, I can say that her nurse says she is following her growing graph.

Oh, one thing Frank probably forgets to mention in his entry: Melody has figured out that it works just as well to laugh and play herself to sleep as it does to cry. Even better usually. She also laughs when she wakes up. Most of the time. She is a happy baby, I think. So if she's crying and whining one day, I know that something's wrong. Her stomach problems that she had earlier are just about gone, even if she still fights the bottle when we're feeding her, but that's got nothing to do with it, I think. She is stil good at keeping her food. She hardly ever does more than a minor spit-up. Some people have to change their babies' clothes three or four times a day, but most days, we don't have to change her clothes at all until it's time for pyjamas. However, I have a feeling that may change when we start with the baby food more regularly. I have bought an apron-type-of-thing, so her clothes should be safe. The apron covers her body and legs and also part of the adult's legs if she's sitting in someone's lap. It also has sleeves. So it can be used as a bib now and as an apron later on, when she is old enough to paint and bake and stuff like that.

So, all in all, Melody is growing and doing just fine.
