Day 5: Skye to Edinburgh
The last day of the Highlands Tour was rather uneventful. We left Skye and did another photo stop (well two stops) at Eilean Donan Castle
and then drove all the way to Fort William. The weather wasn't as perfect as the days before, it was rainy and cloudy and we didn't get a good view of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain (1344 m) in Scotland.
We drove through Glencoe
and visited Hamish, which is probably the most famous highland cow. I couldn't find out if there actually is something special about him, except that his owner had the lucrative idea, to turn his meadow into a tourist attraction. To take photos of a real Highland Cow and all :-)
We reached Edinburgh around 6 PM and said goodbye to our wonderful guide. And each other :-)
I won't give a similiar detailed daily report on my days in Edinburgh, but just show you some of the photos, starting with some overall views.
The first thing I did was to climb um Calton Hill, which lay between my hotel and the old town. Once I got up there and looked over to the other hill "Arthur's Seat", I refrained from climbing up there as well. Calton Hill was more than enough for me :-) I actually got up on Calton Hill again in the evening to take photos in the afternoon / evening sun as well....

In 1822 the Scots wanted to build a National Monument, like the Parthenon in Athens, to honor the dead of the Napoleonic war's. But they run out of money pretty fast and were only able to erect 12 colums :-)
