"ghetto superstar, that is what you are"

this morn i had to wake at 8 to get to driving school to complete driver's ed. it was quite an experience. the shady vietnamese place that my dad's friend owns (you know how it is with parent's friends and their 'connections') issued me a certificate so i could take the written test after only one class, and then today after three hours of driver's ed i got a certificate for completion of driver's ed. it's all about who you know! ^_^^_^^_^ nevertheless, all the ppl in that class were gangsta-wannabes with a rap sheet (speeding tickets). so i was quaking in my 4 inch Nine West platforms, being the only female in the entire class. during our one-hour break in the middle of 3 hours of mind-numbing monotomy, i dashed off to get my hair cut, resulting in what bijan termed "the asian pop star look." i wanted mysterious, pretty Michelle Tran-like bangs (i know, i'm a trendfollower, not setter) but the long haired Vietnamese hippie messed it up and razored my hair off so now i look like a Hong Kong teenager. *shudder* my face is too round, i suppose.

the recital at three was the most boring thing ever. the only thing that saved it for me and didn't make it a 4 hour waste of time was that bijan snuck in and we managed to hide him from my dad. at one point, my dad was standing not two feet away from him, so i had to distract dad by pointing out a vietnamese tree. "Look dad! a tree! why does it have tape around it?!"

yesterday as we were going to the Block, we passed by Garden Grove. i used to live there, horrors of horrors. Garden Grove! its like Riverside and i'm Julie Cooper, the golddigger who managed to score and get a free ticket to move to Newport. depressing how the character i have most in common with on The OC is Julie Cooper, the villianess.

"I'm from the asian ghetto!" i whined melodramtically, throwing my arm across my forehead.
"Don't worry, Garden Grove is nothing. You know where the real asian ghetto is?"
"No, where?"
"Torrance."
"That was where I was born."

and there you have it. waaaaahhhhh! i was born and raised in el barrio, in da 'hood, in the ghetto!

so i guess i can't really be a snobby elitist, if you unmask my true beginnings.... i can imagine it now on A&E Biography:

"Born in Torrance, the notorious stronghold of the Vietnamese Mafia, Gloria Anh-hi Vo was always a snob at heart. While living in Garden Grove, another questionable residence, she gloried in being Vietnamese until.... arriving at Huntington Beach, bastion of the predominantly Caucasian upper-middle class escaping from external manifestations of poverty and other ethnicities...."

are there any laws against kissing in bookstores? is it so wrong to sit in your bf's lap in the philosophy/religion aisle? no one reads it anyway....

(Barnes and Nobles customers complained and the saleslady, averting her eyes, said "There've been complaints about you two, so could you... sit apart? Thank you....")
