Rekindling Friendship and the Light

Kassogtha seems to be doing well so far. If you disregard her loss of power she’s healthy otherwise, though she sleeps a lot. Yesterday I went to visit her at the guild hall and give her the clothes I’d made and a journal, since I figured writing things down might be as comforting to her as it is to me. I found her in a heap on the floor, tangled in her bedclothes and blankets having just woken from some troublesome dreams.

She adores the clothes I brought her, though. I was glad to see her face light up with a smile. After she hung them all up, we talked a bit about things, playing catch-up. She noticed I looked tired and pressed me for what’s been keeping me from sleeping, so I told her about Verdaa and the exorcism. I think I impressed her with that feat, as Vaier had been when he learned about it. (Vaier actually thinks I should be telling the higher-ups in the church about it, that I deserve a promotion or some sort of recognition for my good work. Whether or not he’s right, I’d feel like a braggart if I sought out such a thing.)

We also talked about Luthor, as Kass has her way of bringing subjects right back around to my relationships. Come to think of it, Olantunji also had a habit of doing that very same thing. Anyway, I confided in her about his history and braced myself for a reaction similar to what Minna had. But Kass surprised me. She listened quietly, and after I had finished talking she simply supported me in my decisions. She trusts my judgement of character, and also believes in second chances as I do. It was exactly what I needed to hear and I hugged her tightly. How I’ve missed her, Journal! It’s things like this that remind me why she is my dearest friend.

Today I went with her to the library, though she was late and arrived both barefoot and disheveled. Apparently she was still sleeping when I paged her though the communicator, after waiting 20 minutes past the time she was to meet me. Typical Kass.

We spent the better part of the afternoon going over books on the Light and some even on shadow magic, scanning for anything that might be of use to us in our mission to get Kass’s powers back. I may have found something in one of the large encyclopedias on the Light. There’s a section on Blessings and Imbuements and it gave me the idea to do a sort of power infusion on her, but a more permanent one. Basically like a transfer of some of my power to her. My hope is that the imbuement would take like a fire to kindle, and that she could feed the flame herself after. I have no idea if it’ll work, but I think it’s worth a try.

We agreed not to attempt such a thing until I’m to my full strength again, which will hopefully be very soon. In the mean time, we’ll go back to the basics of training and see about purging any remaining touch of shadow on her person. Which brings me back to doing research, as I’m not sure the best way to go about doing the latter.

Light-willing, we’ll figure something out.
