Good Morning!

In a really good mood this morning, so I thought I'd drop in a quick update on life and politics.

Life
Woke up in a happy mood this morning that's only gotten better. imperatrix's link to the dance challenge in Tap made me grin for almost all of my morning commute. Happy Techno and the chance to floor my car sent me bouncing into work this morning. It's a good day.

Good weekend as well. Had a fantastic D&D session on Saturday, and Sunday was happy and lazy even with the time change. (I hate the time change.) Touchstone and I are trying to haul ourselves to church on a regular basis again; we're at 2 for 2 so far. We'll see if our streak continues through the upcoming hangover...I mean Saturday night party.

Mmm, glorious day.

Politics
I refuse to start rating presidential candidates this early. Ask me again in June when we've had a little more shakeout.

However there is a lovely scenario playing out in our state legislature right now. For those who don't know, our fair state does not permit the sale of beer or alcohol on Sunday. We're apparently one of three with this law still on the books, and there's been a recent push to do away with the restriction. It's a silly restriction: you can go to bar and get wasted on Sunday, but you can't go buy a bottle of wine to eat with your dinner. However, the conservative Republicans (and they're almost all conservative down here) are up in arms over the idea of allowing booze sales to spoil God's Holy Day.

Our fair governor, seemingly oblivious to his hypocrisy, is threatening a veto if the bill passes through the House and Senate. In general, Perdue flies under my radar, so I'm not entirely sure what I think of him as governor. I don't generally like him, but he doesn't seem to have driven Georgia into the ground. But when he does crop up, it's usually for something silly.

So for your entertainment, I present a short summary of Perdue's Positions.

On the State Flag
Rar! I am Perdue, champion of the voter's rights! I stand for freedom, the rights of the people, and limited government! We must let the people of this good state vote for the State Flag that they want.

Oh? You mean you wanted to vote for that flag? Hmm. No, sorry. That one's not an option. It would be bad for Georgia to have the Confederate Battle Flag as their state flag, so you can choose between these two different flags. But look! You're making a decision!

Anti Smoking
Rar! I am Perdue. I will veto this anti-smoking bill because I believe that Government shouldn't involve itself in people's lives! (What abortion, gay-rights bills? Don't be silly; that's not what I mean at all.)

Oh, wait. I'm going to sign that anti-smoking bill after all. But I still believe in limited government! This bill is still wrong.

Drinking
People must not drink on Sunday. I don't drink. You shouldn't drink. We must have laws to keep booze from being sold on Sunday. This is an important function of government.
