(pleasure)France was nice. Got to share the experience with Chris. Biked around a lot in Nice. Pictures to come, just needs to be sorted out. Renting an apartment is a nice abode inbetween a hostel and a expensive hotel. Met new friends, and really just had a brilliant time. Great impulse buy imo ( Read more... )

Yeah it was for an extended weekend. Nothing spectacular, but airline tickets were cheap and renting an apartment was like almost free. Couldn't pass it up.

It's called a Gîte. You can rent then for very cheap and it's a step above a youth hostel because you have your privacy. Here's the site I found it at: http://www.gites-de-france-paca.com/

I'd say it's more like a bed and breakfast. We got it for 284 euro for 3 nights which is like 94 dollars per night. For Nice, it's a steal and the place was VERY nice and the people that owned it came by everyday with croissants fruits and cheese every morning. They had bikes for us to rent to go about town. I felt like I was a local and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

The couple that owned the place knew English, but were more inclined to want to speak French. Chris really picked up some useful French phrases after even a couple of days. As I say in any situation that involves a foreign language, learn as many useful phrases and "do as the romans do" because most other areas of the world aren't as accomodating to speaking a language other than their native tongue.

I've often observed that people in other nations do have the capability to speak very good English, but choose not to solely on the basis that it's their country and not the other way around.
