A massive relief to get my car insurance sorted out!
I am a coward who hates telephones. I never phone anyone, ever, unless I absolutely HAVE to; which is partly why I am such a loyal insurance customer, preferring to just let it renew automatically rather than do the awful 'phoning round for lower quotes. I am not a complete fool however, and I do keep an eye on the premiums, making sure it is reasonable and worth the mioney. So far, it has kept to a not too awful £300-£330 mark, which I am happy with.
This year though...I received a quote via EMAIL from my insurers...(which is odd, as they normally send it by post - I am assuming they were hoping it would get lost amongst the huge volume of emails, and I would forget to check and let it just run on!) However, I did not forget, and I did not miss it. They were demanding a whopping £488.00 from me... which may be a reflection of the days we live in, but it is out of my league right now. So, I had no choice but to try and lower it a bit.
I LOVE insurance comparison sites! I chose one very familiar one and I found a company I have used before. By choosing their prime service, I lower my excess by one third, gain breakdown cover, uninsured driver promise and malicious damage cover, (needed in my area), and my premium was almost half my previous quote. When I phoned my insurers to see if they could better it, he congratulated me on finding such a wonderful quote and told me his company couldn't even come close!
By taking an hour or so with computer and phone, I managed to save myself £212.00 !!!!!
It seems to me that the world's ways are back to front! Would it not make more sense to pay more as a new customer, and then pay less and less each year if you stay loyal to your insurance company? For someone who is naturally loyal, the world of business and finance is completely baffling! If you stay loyal you are trampled upon. If you make clear to them you only care about money, they fall over themselves to help you.
Huh?
