Five things I've noticed in Merlin fandom
1. Ficlets and drabbles galore. Sooo easy* to write them.
2. Merlin characters are v. v. easily transplanted into AU situations.
3. Present tense.
Are your English/Creative Writing teachers telling you to do this? Stop it, please D:
4. People are less concerned with Britpicking (compared to HP).
I still maintain that Merlin's referring to a donkey when he calls Arthur an "ass."**
5. Reverse print.
Why white on black, whyyy? =O Think about your poor readers' eyes!
?format=light*** to the rescue.
* Is this the case with all TV fandoms? It seems to me that SV was filled with epic-length fics.
** So "arse" should still be "arse." Or you can use "bottom" instead.
But in general it doesn't bug me, because Merlin/Arthur = hot. Shallow reader is shallow.
*** Even more annoying is the few people who changed their fonts on an html level, so that the font stays a funky shape/color/size even when using "?format=light" or "?style=mine." *cries*

5. 'Sophia may have been your first love, but she won't be your last.' Uther is trying to secretly remind him that he has already twice tried to convince him that he was in love, first with Merlin and then with Lancelot. He'd even started bonding with Merlin, trying to get to know his son's new boyfriend.
* Apparently Merlin also owns a red jacket? It matches the shade of Arthur's (expensive-looking) red jacket X-D
