“The bastard knows we’re watching him. Seems to think that he can lull us into believing he’s harmless.” The agent listened to the voice on the other side of the phone.
“I agree, best to poke him into acting. Get the special forces here and make him do something. It’ll be safer in the long run.”
Graham put down the phone and stared at the screen in front of him. There was an infrared view of everyone in the house, combined with SN-scope allowing him to see the vampires clear as day. One of the two was on the ground, the other sat on the couch with one of the humans. He stared at the image of the vampires and spat at the screen.

Spike had Dawn sitting practically on top of him. He’d given up trying to force her out of the way and was now just enjoying the warmth of her body against his. The kid was yapping on and on about the ‘singer’ and he meant that very widely, on screen. Angel lay curled up on the mat, a few feet away from them. Spike shivered thinking of what Angelus would think of their current situation. The vampire would hate being humiliated like this. Spike just hoped that when it came down to it, that he’d be able to protect the family from his sire.

“Oh come on, just shoot that bastard already. Yes, Yes! Goal!”
Graham grabbed some snacks and checked the screen again, everything still peaceful, damn it. At least the NFL wasn’t disappointing.

“Thanks Xander. I know it’s hard. No, I haven’t heard from Cordy yet. Her parents said she was still being screened. It’s weird; they didn’t even sound worried. Her mom was over to get a wax and her dad’s still in Brazil.”
Spike grabbed a blood snack and dipped it in his hot cocoa. Somehow the taste seemed to work. Buffy was still on the phone, even after half an hour. He barely noticed as she took the set with her to the bathroom.

They’re finally off to bed and Graham checked to see if the alarms were on before laying down his head for a bit. He’d been on duty for most of the day, too bad that his replacement hadn’t shown up yet. Ten minutes later he slept while the camcorders automatically recorded it as the largest of the two vampires crawled back on his mat and stayed there while the oldest girl and the youngest of the two vamps snuggled in the bed.
The vamp on the floor didn’t sleep. He merely held his legs and rocked slowly, tears in his eyes. Graham didn’t even see the seconds of enhanced brain activity, beyond what a vampire was generally allowed to have. If Graham had been awake he would have instantly logged and given full warning. Too bad he wasn’t.

Buffy was lying in the bath, the nice warm water and the bubbles rose against her skin as she lay back and gently dozed off. Her mind wandering. She walked through half empty streets, noticing a demon dragging two humans behind him. They were weary and tired, obviously intended for the slaughter. She didn’t stop.
A boy was playing violin in the middle of the street and several demons were watching. His blond curls played across his face and he was smiling. Blue eyes, cheekbones taking shape, showing the heartbreaker he’d be when, if he grew up. The vampire beside him petted his hair. “Was that good father?”
The vampire smiled and pulled him in a hug. The boy’s barcode tattoo showed as he tilted his head to his father. Facing her, four identical eyes looking at her she quickly turned away. There were more like him, boys and girls following their vampire parents, barcodes displayed as a mark of honour, a sign they were above the cattle. Sweet and gentle was what they were, raised to be perfect pets, matured now to be masters.
She ran, stopping as she almost hit into the statue on the market square. One of the few human works of arts left untouched by the new demon civilisation.
“President Alexander Lavelle Harris, 49th president of the United States of America.” She whispered and she knew as well as anyone in the crowd why the vampires left his statue alone. He’d been fighting to get vampires their rights back, right before he’d been assassinated and all his dreams torn to waste. Left asunder for several more decades of slavery. The last human they would ever respect.
Angel stared at her, standing on the alley.
“Even the greatest soul has its breaking point.” He said as he tore apart a puzzle of happy humanity. He faced her and she gazed into soulful eyes. “So what hope was there for a wretched waste like mine?”

Graham woke up in a shock and stared at his equipment, the sun had risen already, another day in the neighbourhood. He didn’t notice the alarm switch had been turned off when he fell asleep over it. The phone rang and he didn’t bother to check the camcorders reports.
“Miller here. Yeah I got it. Are you sure that’s a good idea? Of course.”
He left his post to get a coffee and missed the larger vampire crawling back on the bed, cuddling the other two’s feet.

Spike looked up as Buffy came down the stairs, she was shocked by something. Her hair still bound in a towel. She didn’t answer his questions about what was going on, instead she looked down on Angel.
”Is it true?”
He didn’t have the time to answer her question, the both of them staring up as Joyce opened the door. Neither of them had heard the doorbell.
”Of course just come on in.”
Spike couldn’t move and merely watched as Penn walked up to the kitchen, dressed in a repairman’s outfit. The blood snack crumbled in his fist and Penn winked.
