Amy left =( i'm so glad she came to visit though. I hope she enjoyed her time here.. i was suffering from allergies the whole time, so i doubt i was good company. But it was a really fun week. I haven't seen the sites in ages.. we went to the tower of london, buckingham palace, etc. We also went to a couple of really nice restaurants and then the ICE BAR which was fun - though not as cool, as expected. It was really just cold. anyhow, the london eye was great. i always thought it was really expensive but it turned out to be really cheap. haha, i kind of regret not have gone on it earlier. But i guess it's also nice to go on it as a semi-londoner instead of just a tourist now too.. as i know what i'm looking out. I've also renewed my fear of medium height. Don't ask, but it was a stressful ride.
In other news.. i'm so thankful that i took art history. like, europeans know their art.. thank goodness.. i can keep up a conversation in that arena. and thank goodness for being an advid listener of the BBC.. i'm surprised when i can keep a decent coversation going on French or german, or even Polish politics. WHen i really know nothing. but yea, i went to a sotheby's auction with amaury, and wow.. that was a sight. the most expensive piece was auctioned off at 16.4 MILLION POUNDS - so almost 30 some million dollars. It was a piece by Modigliani, and one of Degas' woman bathing pastels was auctioned off at 6 million pounds! it was goregous. There seems to be so many rich people though when you go to these things, you bid by the million.... its crazy. that painting alone could construct i don't know how many field hospitals in africa. anyhow, not the point.
So i've been working for the recuritment office these couple of days.. and boy is it bad. We're doing "Taster" days for AS level kids.. so they're like 16/17.. and they are snotty BRATS. i hate them, and i hope i was never like that. THinking they knew it all.. so cool, and ERR But yea, one thing leads to another at SOAS.. so i'll be working on the Alumni dept coffee table publication. Long story, but i get to write a bit in it. It's weird how i work within the administration.. i know a lot of the admissions people too, and its like just a couple of years ago, they were sorting through my own application.... wow. anyhow.. what else
i really like Lilies. the white ones are nice, but the white and pink petals are even better. They just smell so great. Oh yea, on another side note.. so Gianlucca and Jan are both born in the same year, same month, have the same name - just in different languages, did the same undergrad degree, both speak chinese, and both play the guitar. they didn't seem to hit it off though, and i made a random joke saying hey i u guys could be a couple, if u were guy an girl... perfect match! same interests.. etc. Then they looked at me funny. kind of ruined that. haha. so funny though. i had dinner with Jan.. wah, he's going back to Germany, i probably won't see him for a good time. But yea, we were, like always, talking about post-modernism, post colonialism and the ivory tower. haha, he was also giving me a "lecture" on chinese foreign policy. thank goodness for these people, it's what i love about soas.. crazy people that know about crazy things. =) Hendrik is dating VERA! it's so cute, and its german/israeli.. how far have we gone! i really shouldn't tlak about that as anything special. Anyhow, yea, Jan.. he's turning 30. i find that very attractive. haha. so wrong. On a serious note though, i can't wait to leave this island! it's weird how much i actually want to go to china.. mainly cuz u know... someone will be there with me, but still, happy to travel.
