has interac quoted you any prices? most places (besides places like leopalace and daito kentaku) are not furnished unfortunately. i looked at the prices of daito kentaku in yokohama on their website today, and the rent is actually just as (or more) expensive then what we pay for our place, though. where in yokohama do you want to live? of course the bigger the station the more you will pay unless you live far away from the station, which i don't recommend because you will be walking there everyday. you can look at the apartments daito kentaku has available by station here: http://e-heya.kentaku.net/eheya/rail_map.aspx?pm=0&sm=6&pr=14
we live in nakayama. the cheapest one there is 7.2 man for a 2DK. maybe they have more not listed, or interac has a deal with them or something.. but it seems to me to be quite expensive. you can find similar or better for cheaper. even if it's not furnished... there's really no point in paying an extra two man a month to rent a washing machine and conro (gas burner) when you can buy both of those for less than 2 man (especially if you find them used on like gaijinpot or something). anyway, you can try yahoo too... it's my recommendation because it's where we found our place lol =) http://realestate.yahoo.co.jp/03/rent/?rps=7
daichi and i looked a little today and there are some good places... he even called about one.. but it's still a little early. it's best to look like a week or two before you want to move in, and then if you find something go to the real estate place so you can look at it. perhaps it's easiest to wait until you get here and then we can look together. daichi said he would be your guarantor and gaijin are OK in most places as long as the guarantor is japanese.
well, you still have some time. think about it and let me know what you decide! good luck<3
oh, p.s.... the place he called about was a mansion built in '96, 2DK, 6 man a month and only 3 min. walk from the station (kamoi... which is the station next to ours and has a *huge* mall called lalaporte and an arcade with 50 yen mario cart XDD. it looked nice... i said maybe we should move there, lol XD i think it came with a refrigerator and bed, but no washing machine. it had coin laundry downstairs, though.
oh wow thanks so much for the links~ and holy cow Daichi called someone already?! XDDDD So exciting~~
You have no idea how much I appreciate that you both are helping me so much~!!!! It's such a relief to know that you're willing to help me find a place! <33333
Do you mind if I forward you the email about housing that Interac sent me?? And how should I reply to their email, I wonder...? Should I ask about learning more about daito kentaku and/or should I mention that I have friends in yokohama who are willing to help me find a place on my own??
oh and i have nooooo idea where i want to live in yokohama. i'm so unfamiliar with the city... plus i don't know where exactly my schools will be located. :/
Yeah, forward me the mail and I'll have a look. Send it to my yahoo japan e-mail. (Do you know the address?)
You should weigh all your options first, so don't tell Interac anything like you don't need their help yet. Just tell them you're still undecided. Did they give you a deadline?
I understand about not knowing where to live. We weren't too familiar with the city either... we just ended up going with wherever we could find a good place (and after we came here and looked at it). I'm really happy with nakayama though. It's mostly residential and very safe. We're also close to everything. 10 min from the station, 5 min from supermarkets, 3 minutes to video rental store and bookoff and like 1 minute to the convenience store. There's also a huge park here that's absolutely beautiful. I think those things are important too when deciding. Luckily we've lived here quite some time now, so we can help give you some idea about different places. If you want to be downtown where it's crowded and dirty but you can stay out and party all night, then yokohama or kannai is good. If you want easy access to Tokyo, Kikuna or Machida (machida is actually not in yokohama, but on the yokohama line). If you want a quieter and more residential area, then Nakayama or surrounding stations.
I'll try to catch you online sometime soon but we can talk through e-mail too. If you have any questions, just ask! XD
