Missing Westmont Boy Found!
Westmont, CO - The Westmont police have reported that the State Department and FBI contacted them yesterday in regards to an almost thirty year old cold case. Long time residents will recall the fear that struck Westmont when thirteen year old Carter Price's bike was found abandoned just inside Meadowmar Ranch Park.
Despite the assistance of the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, including the use of then controversial drones with infrared and low-light cameras, no sign of the missing teen was ever found. In a twist that will have conspiracy theorists working overtime to explain, Carter was found when he arrived almost two days ago at the customs desk of the ISA Grissom-Komarov Commercial Transport Station located at Earth's L3 point. (click here for sidebar explaining L-points and a map of major stations including ISA Grissom-Komarov)
In a statement released late last night Westmont Police Chief Breckenridge confirmed that two officers were sent to Grissom-Komarov Station at the request of the State Department, including Boulder homicide detective Eliza Lemar who was in the same freshman class at the old Westmont High as Carter. Detective Lemar reported that Carter's English was rusty but rapidly improving and that he still had his Westmont High School ID card, from the final year in which the Westmont Schools used a laminated paper card with barcode. (click here for Barcodes, RFIDS, and Smartcards a Hundred Year History) The officers sent to confirm his identity reported that Carter appeared pale and slight but otherwise in good health. State Department officials reported that Carter was seen by a doctor and that he shows no insurmountable health issues.
Officials have not offered any conjecture on how Mr. Price came to be removed from the Earth over a decade prior to the officially recognized Contact Day. (click here for the Westmont Observer's top twenty Contact Day articles) The State Department and FBI have declined to speculate on the question simply stating that there is an open investigation. Chief Breckenridge says would only say that the Westmont police department has already provided the FBI will copies of all files relating to Mr. Price.
How did Mr. Carter Price survive nearly three decades on his own off Earth? While he has declined to make a public appearance Carter has released an official statement. Mr. Price thanks the government and citizens of the Vellstian Compact for rescuing him and providing shelter and education until he was old enough to begin his journey home. Mr. Price reports that he was then able to use these initial funds and education to obtain employment on a series of ships while he sought to discover his way home. His initial travels were guided by comparing maps of the Milky Way to his memories of similar charts seen in science classes at Westmont Jr High and Westmont High School. He then selected jobs that would provide him the chance to travel in the direction he hoped would lead him home. After wandering for some years and corresponding with a number of explorers and cultural scholars he heard his first rumors about the discovery of Earth roughly ten years ago and has been working his way closer ever since. Arriving only to discover as many of our readers will already know that his family emigrated to the Iona Colony around the same time that word of Earth's entry into the galactic community finally reached him. The State Department is offering Mr. Price assistance finding passage to Iona so he may rejoin his family.
When a missing persons case has been cold for so many years they commonly end on a sad note. Here at the Westmont Observer we are thankful to be able to report this happy ending and we wish Mr. Price a safe and speedy journey home.
