I survived my first day of classes at UMD.
My first class was Art History 201 at 9:55, so I got there a little after 9 to figure out where everything was, and the parking wasn't even that bad! I finally figured it out, and found out that there was a couple people from CHS in my class, but I only knew Zach Gielow. My teacher is this kind of older lady who LOVES art history and just goes nuts with hand gestures in front of the lecture hall when she talks about it. I think I'm going to like this class. :]
After that I went to Comp, all the way in the science building. Why a comp class got stuck in the science building is beyond me. But I ended up having Enia, Jon Kelly, and Christine Saatio all in that class. I was pretty shocked at the number of CHS people in my classes. It doesn't seem like a bad class though. Pretty much adv. comp from last year except with a WAY cooler teacher than Ms. Rod (who was nuts). It's only 50 minutes three days a week which is awesome.
So I had an hour in between my comp and sociology class and I went to the UC and got some food and basically just wondered around because I knew absolutely no one and had no idea what to do with myself at this time. I felt pretty out of place. Hopefully this will get better. :/
Sociology I ended up having with Lauren Vella. The teacher seems cool. He makes you stand up when you're answering questions and you're not allowed to raise your hand, you just have to stand up, haha. It should be an interesting class. We have to do this video project where you make up your own country and kind of document life there. We'll see how that goes, lol.
I ended up going home for the 4 hour gap. I'll probably stay on Monday, but since I forgot to bring food with me and was still at a loss of what to do with myself, I went home and made piiza bagels and Pat came over for a little bit and I told him about my day. Then I had to leave for math around 5.
My math teacher is foreign and tries SO hard to be funny. He really knows what he's talking about though, and since I took the class last year, I don't think it'll be too bad. Hopefully. I don't remember too much about math last year, but hopefully it'll come back to me. And surprisingly no one from CHS was in that class.
Today I didn't even have class so I did the reading I needed to do for my classes and last night I had done a little bit of math homework. It was a pretty relaxing day I guess. Have to call into work at 5, but it's doubtful I'll get called in.
I can't decide if I like it at UMD or not. I think my goal is to try to transfer to Ann Arbor next year. I want to take summer classes but I'm not sure if I can use my scholarship during the summer semester. Anyone know about that gear? lol Because if I can transfer next year, I want to take summer classes.
