We zipped up to New York City last weekend for a quick visit and to see the Alexander McQueen "Savage Beauty" exhibit (see info here) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (it was amazing, but no photos were allowed). We kept it very cheap by staying in New Jersey. It's amazing how that shaved $$$ off the hotel room (La Quinta in Secaucus, NJ, $133/night total w/ taxes) even though we were literally across the river and only minutes from the heart of the city.
