Marching Band Meeting
To start it off, Mr.V invited only the section and squad leaders to the meeting. 1) It is easy to bend this into making it appear like Visnaw was just talking to the kids he thought would agree. But the MB is 200 people big. It would have been ridiculous to hold a meeting with 200 students. Plus, most teachers wouldn't even give any students the chance to speak out. Visnaw also encouraged non-section leaders to talk to him, so their ideas will still be heard.
2) Even following the last system kids still made choices. They chose if they wanted to do both, one, or neither. Also keep in mind, hes not banning you from doing all sports. Marching band spans one season. You still have winter and spring sports. Indeed you may still be faced with a difficult choice, but the sad truth is in life you may need to choose one passion over another.
3) First of all, it is incredibly possible and common for people to get music scholarships. It is just as common for someone to get a scholarship for sports. And many colleges do look highly on involement in the arts. It really deends on the college.
4) NO. Don't start a petition. Lets handle this in a calm manner. Thats why we had the meeting. You are welcome to express views to him anytime. He knows there are a many against it. And for every person you get to sign a petition against, someone could get a list as big for it. I don't want this to come down to tearing the band in two and having two factions. You need to be really really careful with petitions. Acts such as this tend to create animosity and discomfort on both sides. I believe as a whole everyone needs to calm down. Just believe no matter what happens, everything will be ok in the end. Just take a step back, breathe, and realize its not as big as it seems. I understand you're probably thinking "Well, you live for band. you don't do anything beside band" You could not be more wrong. I also have made sacrifices for marching band. so i understand how and why people are getting upset. But if you honestly feel Visnaw is being as unfair as you say he is, then you should realize its not worth getting angry over cuz if hes really that bad of a guy he wouldn't consider changing his mind anyway. But I don't think hes all the unreasonaalbe. He wants to change the system. Try something new, which in the end everyone may agree is better. Everyone may also agree its worse. But, its impossible to make changes without getting some people angry. But there are lots of benefits to this syetem. Put yourself in Mr Visnaw shoes for a while too, i'm not saying he has it any worse, but you keep saying this isn't fair to you. This system isn't fair to visnaw, and i personally don't like the current system. Visnaw doesn't get to see his family at all during marching band season. I'm going into music in college and my audition play into my admissions process heavily. With the current marching band system i'm missing practicing twice a week. under the new plan, i'm left with enough time to practice every night. But i also realize its not all about me. But its not all about you either. I honestly feel terrible for the sports kids and espiecally the drama kids. I realize you may have to make extrmeley difficult decisions. But likes i said, ive made those decisions before too. Just some stuff to consider. But please everyone just calm down a little. Don't get so heated. Anger only spurs more anger. cheers. I'll be fine with eitheer way. i just think people need to calm down. :)

-I never said the band was competative, that was something said up there ^^ by somebody else.
-All that stuff you say were improved in the change, could go either way. Not all improved. People will still be tardy, mood could be bad from having to go ANOTHER 2 hrs after a long 6 hour day. Same with Focus AND Health.
-I hope some of this has to go through Anderson and Balaj. Balaj is a big NO already. He has to coach his football team over the band playing, how nice is that? Not very. Anderson's daughter, Christina, who is my sisters best friend, was in Marching Band. She was a drum major, Mr. Anderson is a neighbor and a close family friend to us, and he said it would just be a hastle to too many people so he says no too. Ugh, I pray that it has to get by them.

and two..."Life isn't fair"...exact quotes of visnaw. He doesn't get to see his family? Wow, well that's too bad. He made a commitment, that's his fault. I never see my family either. My parents both have two jobs, one of those jobs being realators (Both of them) which if you don't know takes up ALL of your time RANDOMLY. So I might come home on the day my mother has her cleaning job off, and she's gone doing her other job. It's life. Deal with it.
I love MB. I have so much fun in it. It kills me looking at this situation and seeing.."Wow, I either have to pick sports, or Marching band"...when it could've been both. I'm not being greedy, all about me. Do you realize how many kid's this really has affected? A lot. A lot of kids told me to voice my opinion a lot at the meeting because they agreed with me.
I loved when Dani really told him what was up. The whole "No, never mind"...V:"No, go dani"...."No, it's not important. If I say it you will just argue with me and i'll win"..... That was SO TRUE! V is a good guy. Hell i've sat in the guys living room and pet his cat and chatted with him. I'm not totally against him like you guys think I am. I'm just voicing MY SIDE of the whole situation, just like you guys were.
