First, I hope everyone had a merry Christmas! And now I guess its time to say HAPPY NEW YEAR! So Christmas was nice and relaxing, if a little uneventful - we watched movies, and my Dad and I muddled through a game of chess on the new set I bought him for Christmas - I really am not good enough to be his partner yet, though, so he kept telling me what he was going to do ahead of time, out of pity. I will have to practice on my own against a chess computer game. The day after we went to see some lights on this block that apparantly has it as part of a rule of the Homeowner's Association to decorate for Christmas, and then went to see the windows at Macy's - the cutest little puppies you have ever seen, and some very pissed off looking cats. Some of the windows were empty, their occupants having been adopted. We also stood and watched the 8:00 pm ice skating session in the Union Square rink - watching figure skaters fall on their asses, as the song goes. I also made a gingerbread house from scratch for the first time! After years of failure!

Other than that there have been attempts to get internet connection on my new macbook that I got for Christmas to replace the laptop that died last semester, and to transfer my information from the old computer we dug out of storage - a bigger ordeal that one would imagine. And, having a friend get on my case about not knitting, I finally picked up my book on the subject and learned to knit stripes! So I have started a new scarf, in Christmas colors! Yes, my life is full of silly inanities. Anyway, may the next year be a promising one!
