Easter lunch outrage

Mar 23, 2008 19:54

More proof that you should never talk politics at the family dinner table.  I was with Brother at his partner's family Easter get together.  Partner had to work so it was just Bro and I.  Sort of awkward, for me anyway, since I don't know them all that well.  They've been nice enough.  Quite nice and welcoming to me, actually.

Anyway, today someone said something about Barack Obama being the next president.  M said that she was going to vote Republican.  Whatever, not much surprise there.  But then T said that she couldn't vote for anyone who had a 20-year relationship with Obama's minister, who preached racism and prejudice.  That she would vote for McCain instead.  Brother and I were both positively perplexed.  I don't know much about T's previous marriage, but usually previous marriages are no good, what with them being previous and all.  I wanted to ask how she would like to be judged based on her relationship with her ex-husband.  Instead,  I remained quiet since I don't know them well enough to be all outspoken and everything.

So, I'm just going to make this request.  If you cannot bring yourself to vote for whomever gets the Democrat nomination, please just don't vote.  No need to ruin it for the rest of us by voting for McCain.
