Okay, so I've had to stop watching all of the newscasts concerning Virginia Tech. I know it's silly, but I've been having bad dreams. And I don't want to wake up questioning whether anymore of my family is really dead or if it was just a dream. My cousin, John, emailed. His girlfriend worked with one of the victims and she had class in Norris on Tuesday/Thursdays. They've both gone back to Lynchburg for the time being, but classes start again on Monday and he has to sit for his Comps at the end of April. It's just too big. I wish I was in Virginia. Not living there, but I definitely wish I was there right now. Nobody here gets it.
On a much lighter note. I went to the Newport Aquarium today in Cincinnati. Of course it wasn't as ginormous as Monterey or Atlanta, but it was nice. And they do boast the only captive shark rays in the Western hemisphere so that's something. And the shark exhibit was pretty freakin' sweet. Though I did have a Jaws 3 moment when you're walking through this dome and there's water and sharks all around you (though, of course, no direct link to the ocean) and then you look down and realize, hey, they're down there too. Because the floor is see through as well. Which is neat, but a little scary. And we touched some sharks. But alas, no rays. They duped me. Ah, well.
Have I mentioned the most amazing bagel place? Bagels the likes of which I haven't had since I was in Philadelphia in 1998 or 1999? I mean delicious, mouth-watering, worth-breaking-my-jaw bagels. So, whoever comes to visit, you will definitely get bagels. Yum.
I'm going to give my mother a heart attack tomorrow by going to church. There's a local church that meets in a coffee shop called "Common Grouns" (get it?). And their thing is "Our religion is 2,000 years old but our thinking isn't" which I'm hoping is a good thing. And, it may be weird, but I imagine that the events of this week will lead to some interesting messages. But my Mom will have a heart attack because she said she was going to call every Sunday and ask if I went to church -- she knows I don't go to church unless she asks me to, really.
I really want to talk about Tech more, but my emotions are so scattered, I think I need to focus more. I miss Virginia today.
