Life is but a narrow winding path along the steep hillside of fortitude. Where we trace our course in slow, careful steps least we stumble and fall.
Our companions are perseverance and courage, lending us the strength to go on, to hold on when the blisters of suffering make rise on our heels as we continuously thread the treacherous path. They are the shoulders we lean on and the co-bearers of our pain.
Sometimes impatience would join us in the journey, urging us to make haste or suggesting that we scale the high cliffs in order to shorten the journey so we may reach our destination sooner. There will be times when we give in to temptation, scrabbling up the thorny sides against our better judgement. Sometimes the risk would pay us well and we can descend down the new slope with much elation at an obstacle well crossed. But sometimes we forget our limits and overestimate our capability leaving us grasping at the roots and pebbles which gives way in our hold. In listening to impatience we tumble down the cliff which turns us back on our path and gives us bruises and scars which we will carry with us for the rest of the journey.
But we soldier on, because that is all we have, this journey…
We question our destination… question the choices we make about the paths we thread upon but then we will find those moments where we sit upon the ledge, looking out at the vastness which is our life. We admire the storm clouds that are speckled with the blessings of the guiding sun - the light cast by those around us, our friends, our family.
And we are glad that we are given the chance to make this journey.
