what with randomly finding some money hidden in one of my ds game boxes while i was trying to register games on my nintendo account, i decided to buy books and not read the papers on the trains for a change. actually that is my imagination altering reality, i wanted to get the new testino book.

while i was looking for it in books etc i saw the new Marianne Faithfull book. marianne's first autobiography - Faithfull is supposed to be one of the best biographies you can ever read - that is i presume if you have interest in the 60s and 70s. i never read it but read about how amazing it was. loving marianne for over a decade, the new book Memories, Dreams & Reflections was a must buy. on the same section 2-3 row below another book caught my eye. Dandy in the Underworld - mainly because of the combination of gypsy pink and black used over somewhat eye-catching photo cover. I now nothing about Sebastian Horsley tho wikipedia filled me in a bit and it seems he led an exciting life of debauchery.

after visiting waterstones to see if i could find a signed copy of faithfull's new one and having difficulties remembering the name of horsley's book I went to borders which i always think is the starbucks of the bookstore chains and bought both books and the testino one as well. i'm halfway through marianne's and all her random memories from the usual stones/beatles/60s stories to her drug addictions are very interesting. What really fascinated me tho was her circle of acquintances/friends that i had no idea about - such as William Burroughs and all major beatniks and the bohemia and also her beliefs in witchcraft and changelings. The choice of words range from the sophisticated and articulate ones to "other shit like that". It is all very inspirational in a negative of a photograph which when developed can give you something amazing kind of way if that makes sense. after reading her memories you wonder well why did i give up on living? a life less lived is certainly not what i want written on my tombstone.

anyways talking about inspiration and doing things and hanging out in sleb circles and doing recreational stuff (which has been nothing more than pints of beer recently which is certainly not recreational and therefore as of today i am giving up) i have been abroad after i've been to several gigs. let's forget about the non-existing antics of being in a foreign country with the exception of finding my address printed on a t-shirt in a department store, a focus is needed on 2 important gigs.

Polly Jean Harvey at RFH is one. White Chalk as I thought  it would, turned out to be one of my favourite albums of the year. When performed live songs off it change form and shape and turn into something if not entirely, certainly drastically different. take the song Grow for example which turns into a sweet song when performed live whereas it is quite unsettling on the album. Silence is another one that comes out more powerful with the cracked howling like vocals at the end when performed live. I strongly recommend downloading bootlegs of several gigs off dime. the other gig i shot was at was metronomy and foals who i thought would be the new indie/nme darlings by now but judging from the hits on flickr noone really gives much shit about which is a shame because they are actually an exciting band emerged this year. i'm not saying it to carry the turk-greek peace flag either. Even though it seems like they are playing one 50 minute song when on stage, it is an excellent 50 minute song that people find themselves dancing to - if they can avoid silly hand gestures. Check them out around the country. More photos when you click.
