2. I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3. You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five answers.
4. You'll include this explanation.
5. You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed.
1) What are your top five favourite things to read in fic? (pairing, genre, trope, whatever) OOOOOOH. Hmn.
a.) I generally like to read a new take on an old idea. Intrigue me with your summary, and then really draw me in with your ideas. It's never old meme if you can bring a new twist on things, and that's what I admire. Like, "oh, this pairing has been done a million times, but here a new look at it," yes, I will read your fic.
b.) No lie, I know this may sound weird, but I love dialogue in stories. Descriptions are always awesome, but I really enjoy characters riffing back and forth. Perhaps because when I read stories, I imagine a little movie in my head, y'know? And so too much description and not enough dialogue can take me out of a story a bit. Why? If it is a fic where hardly anyone says anything, that's cool. But there are only so many ways you can describe someone's eyes. Or a couch. Or a shirt. But there is never too much back-and-forth conversation. Sometimes I wish I could write a story of almost pure conversation, but I feel as though people wouldn't enjoy it very much.
c.) Romance isn't necessary for me. I like suspense/tension in a fic, I suppose; whether it's sexual tension or someone being worried about an event on the horizon, I like it. It feels like it gives me more of a reason to read. (This can be done in many ways. Like you're waiting for a pairing to finally get it on. Someone is angry at another character and it's only a matter of time before they snap. There's something special happening and it's only a matter of time before said person finally catches on. You know what I'm saying?) You may say, "This is every fic," but you'd be wrong. There are lots of fics out there that merely discuss things and that's their purpose. That's cool, I just like tension in my reads.
d.) There is no particular pairing I like, but I will gravitate towards a fic if I am interested in people's perspectives of a certain character. Mmm, for example, in RENT I liked to read fics that had Roger in them because I thought Roger was an intriguing character and I was interested to see how people wrote him. In Supernatural, I prefer reading fics about Castiel because I like to see how people portray him. (I'm not a big fan of reading Dean/Castiel. Not that I mind the pairing, but because it always seems a little like the same thing over and over with Castiel's feelings about Dean. I mean, if someone recs me a fic with the pairing or I see that someone on my flist has written about it, I'll be all over it. But because of the way I've seen Cas in that particular pairing, I don't prefer fics about it.)
e.) Usually I like to read fics about background characters. I love to see people flesh them out! (Haha, I still remember the awesome that was the HP fandom going batshit after JK described Blaise as a suave black man, not a fiery redheaded girl that most peeps interpreted her as. Oh MAN.) If there is a story about someone in the background, or someone we don't see often, I will probably take a peek if I'm interested in said character.
2) What is your favourite movie and why? GOSH THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE. Lemme name a few films that come to mind and I'll put a short description why.
- A Hard Day's Night/Help! - I love the Beatles more than words. I love everything about them. Seeing them interact in movies is so cute and wonderful. AHDN is a good movie period, capturing the essence of the Beatles persona and Beatlemania as a whole. Help! is more of a '60's movie with the bright colors and bad puns yet still retains a curious mischievousness of the Beatles. (You could also put Yellow Submarine in here as well, I suppose.)
- Pale Rider - CLIIIIIINT. The first Clint Eastwood movie I sat through and I loved it. You'd be correct in saying this is another version of High Plains Drifter, but I like the figure of the Preacher better in this movie.
- The Thing - Kurt Russell and his bad-ass self are amazing in this John Carpenter film. I really love this above all horror movies because it does such a good job at not only giving you the outright disgusting scares but also the intense paranoia that slowly creeps into this camp of men. Also, I love watching it over and over because it's always fun to try and point out who assimilates into the Thing at what point.
- Planet Terror - Oh goodness. Zombies, B-movie humor, some of my favorite actors.
- The Magnificent Seven - Based on The Seven Samurai, Seven is its own film with some of the best actors that lived during that time. Steve McQueen, James Coburn, Robert Vaughn, just fabulous and amazing.
- Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang - RDJ and Val Kilmer saying hilarious things to an intriguing murder mystery. BEST QUOTES EVER.
- American Beauty - Visually striking. Amazing script. I still cry at the end. Fabulous look on suburbia.
THOSE ARE JUST A FEW BUT I FUCKING LOVE MOVIES.
3) If you could have any job in the world, what would it be? My secret? I would love to be an actor. (Bonus secret - I think I would be pretty okay at it.) Second secret? Someone who interviews musicians and actors and such for Rolling Stone or Entertainment Weekly or SPIN or something. (Bonus secret - I think I would be pretty okay at that too.) The problem is those are probably never ever going to happen. Realistically, I would try to be a freelance photographer. BUT A VERY WELL KNOWN ONE, YOU DIG? ;D
4) Favourite ice-cream flavour? TCBY's Cotton Candy. THAT SHIT IS BANANAS.
5) Since I don't know you very well, top five favourite pairings and why you ship them. :D lol haven't I written enough? OBVIOUSLY NOT LET ME GO OOOOOOOON
(I didn't notice before, but almost all the pairings I wrote about are def. pretty much canon. Not because I prefer canon pairings, necessarily. I just love these pairings and they happen to be canon. Not to say that I don't like other pairings, these are just the ones I happened to choose.)
Not in any particular order:
a.) Collins/Angel, RENT - OH YEAH I'M BRINGING OUT THE OLD PAIRINGS GUYS. This one is from RENT. I've always loved their story, partly because it is so amazingly tragic. They meet one night and do end up pretty much falling in love. They have AIDS, so it isn't surprising that Angel gets sick and passes away. They only have a year together, but they fit so much love in that year...it's a beautiful thing. These are two people who literally live for today because they don't have much of a tomorrow. They love each other openly and with everything they have, and even after Angel dies, you know Collins will never ever love someone the way he loved Angel. Even though it's a sad story, I seriously would want to be with someone and be able to compare my relationship to theirs. (Minus the sickness and dying and angst.)
b.) Abby/Connor, Primeval - I ship it because these two are downright adorable. Especially since Andrew Lee Potts and Hannah Sperritt fell in love on this goddamn show and they are adorable. I love it because it goes back and forth; season one Connor has a huge boner for Abby, but in season two Abby kind of starts thinking she kind of likes Connor. AND THEN THE THIRD SEASON NNNGH THEY FINALLY KISS AND IT'S AWESOME, but it's still kind of not there as well. I love it because it's unspoken and it's not touched on enough to get annoying. It's always kind of in the background, and I like that. Besides, you do kind of root for Connor because he's so awkward and he's lovable in his own way, even if he's not a favorite character of yours.
c.) Eddie/Susannah, the Dark Tower - Holy mother of Christ, did I mention the Dark Tower? Why do I love it? Because it's fucking true love, that's why. They are decades apart, thrown into this mess with Roland and his quest and they are not really happy about it. Eddie Dean is a heroin addict from the 80's who is going through withdrawal, and Susannah starts off as Odetta Holmes from the 50's, who has an evil, nasty side called Detta Walker living in her. Not to mention Odetta had an accident (which seperated her into Odetta and Detta) which left her with legs ending at the knee. Odetta and Eddie fall in love, and when her and Detta merge to become Susannah, she finally becomes his wife. Their love for each other spans the many layers of the Tower, and I def. cried by way through the seventh book. I love the ending for them both. There's nothing between them. They saw the worst of each other from the start, and you know they will love each other no matter what.
d.) Zoe/Wash, Firefly - Can we just start with the fact that they are two completely different people who are completely and utterly in love with each other? The only real functional relationship we see on Serenity, Zoe and Wash represent hope in the face of darkness for me. The whole crew in Firefly basically hang on the edge the entirety of the show. The script and such is so witty and funny you kind of forget that these people are living day to day, which is hard enough now but even harder in space when you not only have to worry about food but also fuel, because if you are stuck in space you have nowhere to go. I'm sad that this couple was left a little one-dimensional due to the fact that the show got cut early. Really, it's true. You really only see them happy with a few arguments here and there. What I really liked was in Heart of Gold when they were talking about having babies. I wanted to hear more issues like that than straight up arguments. I will always love the fact that she absolutely despised him at first only to eventually turn around and marry him. And a happy marriage at that! Oh, these two.
e.) Everybody/Everybody, Supernatural - HAHAHAHA. This is true. Yes, yes, it's also true that there are some pairings I don't prefer. However, to be honest, I really can't chose one pairing from this fandom. I mean, there aren't solid pairings in canon that I prefer, but I don't really gravitate towards one pair in particular for SPN. So, instead of sitting here trying to think of a pairing I like, I'm just going to put a choose-my-own of everyone/everyone.
DID YOU READ THAT ALL BECAUSE HOLY SHIT
CAN YOU TELL I LIKE TO WRITE A LOT OR IS IT JUST BECAUSE I WRITE A LOT
If you want to, you can comment for the memes! I can give you a letter or five questions OR BOTH. ;D
